Publisher's Summary

Jane Austen’s beloved Pride and Prejudice is readapted in this regency tale of love in the face of tragedy. Mr. Darcy is thwarted in his attempt to propose to Elizabeth Bennet at Hunsford when he encounters her minutes after she receives the sad news from Longbourn of her sister’s death. His gallantry and compassion as he escorts her back to Hertfordshire begins to unravel the many threads of her discontent with him. While her family heals from their loss, Darcy must search London for answers - answers that might bring justice, but might also just mark the end of his own hopes with Elizabeth. Is it true that nothing can be lost that love cannot find?

Delightful!

I read this book when it was first written and I had forgotten how much I loved it until I listened to it now. Fantastic story line, so touching and romantic. Definitely swoon worthy and such witty banter between Darcy and Elizabeth. And the relationship between Mr and Mrs Bennet and even the Carroll’s at Darcy House!! Be still my heart. My thanks to Mr Pickering for bringing these beloved characters of Mrs Mackrory to life.

Just bad

It's a shame that the sample of an audiobook tells so little about the book itself. This book falls flat in every way-- the barely tolerable dialog, character development (or lack thereof), plot development-- all an unengaging mess. The narrator's decision to voice Mr. Darcy as a crusty old man is off-putting, the author's decision to make him an artist (okay) with none of the potentially interesting character development that this quality could bring to the story, and the writing itself ("Darcy's elation was indescribable?" Well, it's a book. Make an effort to describe it.) are just disappointing. It's possible to write JAFF without destroying her legacy, but this author didn't do that. It's just a poorly written romance that uses the names of Austen characters. Don't bother.

Really loved this story

I highly recommend this book to a Jane Austen fan fiction lover. The narrator was great as well as the story well written. Mr Darcy is interrupted while trying to propose by some dreadful news. Elizabeth’s sister has fallen ill. He escorts her to Hertfordshire. Loved it.

Beautiful heartwarming story

I’ve read this several times and it’s one of my favourite Pride and Prejudice variations so it’s been wonderful to hear David narrating it so beautifully.
