Publisher's Summary

Johnstone Country. Mountain Man Justice.

If there's one thing Smoke Jensen hates, it's a man who fights dirty. And no one fights dirtier than a politician. Especially a lying, cheating, no-good grifter like Senator Rex Underhill. Luckily, with another election coming up, this senatorial snake in the grass has some serious competition: Smoke's old friend, Sheriff Monte Carson. Carson's an honest man, and he's got Smoke's full support. But Underhill's got support, too: a squad of hired guns ready to hit the campaign trail - and stain it red with blood...

Swapping bullets for ballots, Underhill's henchman make it all too clear that Sheriff Carson is not just a candidate on the rise, he's a target on the run. But with Smoke's grassroots support - and lightning-fast trigger - he manages to stay alive in the race. That is, until Carson's righteous campaign takes a near-fatal turn when the Senator Underhill tricks his opponents, traps them in a mine, and literally buries the sheriff's political ambitions. When the going gets tough, Smoke gets even. When this game turns deadly, it's winner kills all...

Another great offering. ByJohnstone!

This book took a nice turn in that Monty isrunning for office and Smoke is his campaign manager. Very entertaining and well-written. Leaves room for other books in the future.

Not the same

I don’t know who really wrote these newer books, but they just are not the same as the older excellent ones. I think someone has hired shadow writers for these. I’m going back to the originals.

Starts slow, gets you invested, then cuts you off

I don't regret reading it, but man it's clear the writer changed his mind about 7/8 of the way through the book. It was entertaining and the narrator did well, but just be warned it's going to frustrate you.

Smoke

Another number one book with the Jensens. This may be my favorite and I have listened to a lot. This is going in my to listen to again collection. First Monte is running for a senator position and Smoke is his Campaign manager. Sally also helps. But what makes this story so good is Leo. I like books with Smoke Matt and the rest of the family but when they and Cal and Pearly in it makes them even better. I don't want to say to much and spoil it for anyone but this is a must if you like these books about Smoke. But Leo is helping Rob the bank starting out and gets caught then Monte takes him under his wing and becomes his mentor. Jack Garret did an excellent job narraiting this book. Even with Leo you can tell how nice and nieve Leo is by the expression of Jack's voice. When you can do that your in a small group of great narraiters.
