A brief tale

It really feels like this should be a freebie attached to a larger book. while it slightly builds a character's backstory, its hardly fitting for $1 every 6 minutes.

a ground assault against a hive city (which doesn't work or make sense)

the author did not understand the subject matter. the protagonists did not conduct warfare in a way that makes sense or that should have succeeded.
