Publisher's summary

Anasoma, jewel of the Mahruse Empire, has fallen.

As Caldan and his companions flee the city, horrors from the time of the Shattering begin to close in.

With Miranda's mind broken by forbidden sorcery, Caldan is forced to disobey the most sacrosanct laws of the Protectors if he is to have any chance of healing her.

But when one of the emperor's warlocks arrives to take control of him, he begins to suspect his burgeoning powers may be more of a curse than a blessing, and that the enemies assailing the empire may be rivaled by even more sinister forces within.

This is an updated recording from the original 2014 edition, also performed by Oliver Wyman, which matches the current reissue of the print book.

Story continues better than ever!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

The story gets better in this second book, trickles of the puzzle of the characters come together. Much is happening in this book as the story advances.

Which character – as performed by Oliver Wyman – was your favorite?

Caldan

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Caldan crafts the medallion that could only be activated by splitting his well into 4 strings. That scene is incredibly vivid in my mind, the work that it took him.

Not the telling i wanted after the first book.

My expectations were high going into this second book...while the characters and plot are as good as the first book i found myself growing agitated with so many thread changes...tracking four or five groups of characters in parallel lines to the story takes incredible skill and a delicate hand, not to be found here. Instead it was hard for me to follow and remember the details and backstory for each group as the change occurred.
Robert jordan was a master of this kind of multi thread storytelling with a smooth almost flawless transition from one group to the next. I really want this series to be that good, maybe as the series grows and matures it will be.
Still worth the credits and time to listen. I look forward to seeing the future editions.

Pretty good

Some of the comments say that this book sucked. But I don't quite think so. There were some parts that I didn't like much, but it was great none the less. The story continued as usual and it was pretty good.

good story, will get the next one.

This story is very entertaining. Characters are written pretty well. my only complaints are that the plot meanders a bit, and there are a good number of repeated discriptives. Overall, however an enjoyable read.

If you enjoyed the first book this is a fun sequel

I almost hesitated to buy this book because I read reviews before each purchase and there were some discouraging opinions. Very glad I ignored them as with many critics they were overly harsh trying to break down every detail. It’s a fun story and nice continuation from the first novel.

keeps you in suspense. Above average entertainment

kept me listening almost non stop, but I cant say the characters have always been logical in their actions, the hero acts a bit immature sometimes. Good book, but I don't see myself remembering it 6 months from now

Not quite as good.

Good book but not nearly as good as book 1. It seemed to drag on for no good reason. Worth the listen but I'm hoping book 3 brings it all home.

Unable to wait

Would you listen to Blood of Innocents again? Why?

Of course I will read it again if more than 3 months pass before the 3rd in the series comes out, but why would I have to wait. I'm sure it is on its way. Just wishing.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Besides Caldan? Who is one of the Archetypal hero types like Alvin(Orson Scott Card) or Goodkinds Richard Cypher. Lady Felice is my second favorite character. A little older(well twice as old at least), and lacking sorcery, but still extremely competent, she reminds me of an older Lara Croft. Hope she contributes to the continuation of the story.

What does Oliver Wyman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

A remarkable facility with voice changes for each character.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

At least a couple of times laughing, and a few teary moments, but more than a few arm hair raisings.

Any additional comments?

Am looking forward to much more from this author and I hope the collaboration with Mr. Wyman continues.
