Publisher's Summary

The first of upcoming new author J.P. Willie's horror novels, Blood in the Woods is based upon disturbing real-life events that took place in 1990s Louisiana. For Jody, growing up in the late '80s and early '90s in the small Louisiana town of Hammond with his best friend Jack was filled with wonderful childhood memories.

Time spent playing in the woods, shooting pellet guns, blowing up mailboxes, fighting at school, and upon the dawning of interest in the fairer sex, their carefree lives are typical of children with few responsibilities and no worries beyond the next pop quiz or getting to second base.

As they grow older together and experience the joys and pains of life, love, family, and friendship, they uncover a grim secret that their hometown has kept, and through little more than an innocent, idle curiosity, Jody and Jack stumble upon something horrific in the woods. Their lives quickly take a most sinister and dangerous turn as they find themselves hunted by an unspeakable evil....

Deadly

Blood in the Woods started out as a good book but then it started with animals being sacrificed or just plain killed. This is definitely not something I want to read. The only good thing about this book was the narrator Christopher Harbour he was excellent until I just stopped listening.
I received this audio book at my request and I am sorry I asked. I am leaving my honest review voluntarily of my own volition.

Bad boys and fictionalized story

These boys are seriously bad and if you are not able to tolerate “glory days” stories, this one is not for you. I thought that this was going to be more about the acts and investigation of the perpetrators. It wasn’t wholly bad, but you get caught up in the story and forget that the author could really not have any idea what was said or done by the “devil worshippers” in their private times. I was impressed that there didn’t really seem to be a lot of judgement against other religions. He didn’t jump on the satanic panic bandwagon and say that all Satanists are bad and kill babies, so that was really refreshing. It was an entertaining read, but I’m not sure it was worth the credit, maybe a five dollar pick up.

ew.

it's very tedious. I came across this book because of a podcast and thought this was going to be a true crime story, it was not. it was 8 hours of an obnoxious anxty kid doing hoodrat stuff. and 1 hour of true crime. when they do get to the crimes its hard core and gritty. The bad guys never get any character development so it feels out of place.

Interesting

I have to admit...I hated the main character. He was such a bully and I know that was the point but it made it really difficult to keep going through the story. However, thank goodness some maturity and levity occurred so that I didn't despise him at the end. This is a coming of age story straight out of hell so mission accomplished :-)

Wow! Not for the faint of heart.

J.P. Willie's debut book is terrifying. The story centers around Jody and Jake, 2 tweens from Louisiana. It starts as a wonderful trip down memory lane: riding bikes with your friends, playing Nintendo, hiking in the woods, having your very best friend, and a very first love. Quickly we learn that all is not okay in the woods. Something scary is going on. As encounters with creepy strangers pile on, Jody and Jack try to muddle through without involving their parents or the police. The boys, now with their friends as well, find themselves in more and more harrowing situations. The story culminates in a truly gory, horrific, crescendo of violence. The story was incredible for those of us who love horror/thriller/suspense genres. Christopher Harbour did an amazing job narrating. Overall, excellent. I will be following this author.

Boring and annoying

Almost nothing interesting happens, and basically all the characters are annoying delinquent children. The book is also full of unnecessarily foul language, and don't get me wrong, I don't mind a bit of tasteful profanity, but there isn't anything tasteful (or scary) about this book.
