As the holiday season approaches, Reece and her friends miss Katrina Takshier, who passed away from cancer. A new resident in the building, Melinda Shaiffer, comforts Reece, but when Melinda and her husband, Ted, start having marital problems, Melinda becomes a caregiver for her two aging aunts. As a result, Reece and Amy oversee the Shaiffers’ apartment and their new puppy.

Reece’s discovery of an old, forgotten cemetery affects her dog so deeply that Durga escapes into the woods every chance she gets. Even with Jackson’s help in managing Durga, Reece can’t figure out what’s enticing her pet to run away. A new Lowery’s client, someone handsome and mysterious, frightens Reece silly, arousing the wrath of his mother, Victoria Ravenstoke. Then, right before Christmas, the worst snowstorm seen in decades descends on the area.

It all culminates when Amy and Stacey accidentally discover a gruesome crime scene in the Shaiffers’ unit. Is Ted the killer, and is Melinda guilty, too? What if the murderer is someone else entirely? When Reece inadvertently stumbles across the killer, it will take everything Jackson has to protect her.
