Publisher's Summary

Edgar Allan "Poe" Rutherford works as an unlicensed private investigator on the island of Maui. He does the occasional job for Mara Winters, an attorney who represents some of the wealthiest and most eccentric locals. Poe's latest assignment involves the case of Charlotte Chambers, the elderly owner of the Chambers Hotel. Charlotte's worth tens of millions, and she's been receiving threatening notes in the mail. Her suspects? Her three adult children. She's convinced one of them wants to knock her off, so they can get their inheritance sooner rather than later. At first Poe thinks she's a bit on the delusional side, but then Charlotte receives an even more disturbing note, this one threatening to kill her. Poe immediately enlists the help of his girlfriend, the beautiful detective Alana Hu. Can Poe and Alana find the culprit before Charlotte turns up dead? Blood Like the Setting Sun is the sequel to Wedding Day Dead and Aloha Means Goodbye.

Enjoying the Series

This is book 3 in the murder on Maui series. The series is excellent and the author has a great sense of humor. The characters are well developed and evolve during the books. Maui neighborhoods and locals are nicely described. Enjoying the series very much!

I took a break between book 2 & 3 because this narrator, in my opinion, was not a good match with the young lead character, Poe. However, after the 1st few chapters, the narrator becomes acceptable. With the rest of the books in the series the author goes back to his book 2 choice of narrator, who is a much better match for Poe’s voice.
