Publisher's summary

Instead of talking about investing, this audiobook will focus on how blockchain technology works and how it might be used in the future. Topics you can expect to see in this book include:

  • What problem does blockchain solve?
  • How can technology make our institutions faster and less expensive?
  • Could technology replace our institutions (like governments, banks, etc.) altogether?
  • How does blockchain build trust between strangers?
  • How does blockchain increase security for transactions and contracts?
  • Can blockchain be used outside of finance?
  • What is a block?
  • What is the chain and why do we need it?
  • What’s a technical explanation of what happens in the blockchain?
  • What is mining and why do we need it?
  • Are there alternatives to mining to create a blockchain?
  • What’s the story of Bitcoin?
  • Does Bitcoin have any problems?
  • What is Ethereum, and what is a smart contract?
  • Are there other blockchain technologies I should know about?
  • How are companies adopting blockchain?
  • What regulatory hurdles might slow blockchain adoption?

Whew, that’s a lot of questions. If you’re ready to tackle them, I’m ready.

Beats me

I am an older man retired from a career in electronic design (not software) and this book may be good for those able to grasp and retain it but for myself I am completely baffled and must start over somewhere else.

Short, sweet, and insightful

This book is very short, but don't let that dissuade you from listening. This book covers all the necessities in getting into the blockchain space. I thought it was great.

N00b-friendly

As someone with only a surface-level understanding of crypto and a basic grasp on coding, This book did a good job of giving me details about going completely over my head. I think some of the technical pages may be better to read in print, but it didn’t translate too badly. Overall a very helpful introduction to the who/what/when/where/why/how.

good first book

good first book on blockchain, a wee dated now, still a good start. second other reviews about the use of and so on, it.gets old and is very superfluous to the story.

A outline understanding on Blockchain Technology

This is a short book about Blockchain Technology and did a good job of giving me a glimpse into how this technology works, where it is being used in a snapshot. It feels interesting and hope to to understand cryptography a bit more someday.

Informative

Thanks Alan! This book was an unintimidating tech read on a topic that many would be well-informed to read (hear). In fact, it was so well written that it came across more as a societal information piece than a technology publication. Even the "liberty to skip" techno section was quite tolerable!

Look No Further - This IS The Best Explanation

I had a sense of the term block-chain but didn't fully appreciate it's complexities until the conclusion of this (short) book. When I say this is THE best explanation it is because I tried several (did you know you can try and return titles to Audible?) but none of them are even close to this book. Now I'm completely comfortable with the tech, the definitions, what proof of work means, and so much more. All makes sense and, yes, I see how block-chain can potential impact every element of modern society in a positive way. Worth your time.

This was the best book I found out there for Blockchain!

As a non-developer, I was able to understand 100% of this book. The information was thorough and concise. This was the best book I found out there for Blockchain. Thanks Norman!

Good intro to Blockchain if you are unfamiliar

It honestly felt too short. but thats the point. if you have little to no coding experience or dont understand what blockchain is, this book is a good intro. Even if the technical stuff is still too hard to comprehend in this book, this book will at least get you on your feet mentally speaking so you can dive into deeper books. blockchain termonology & design is no simple task to understand. this is the 1st out of dozens of books to understand blockchain. good luck to those who are jumping into this deep, dark, cold end of the pool of knowledge!
