In the world beyond the Spires, the Order reigns supreme.
Betrayed and trapped in Erlik’s dungeon, Duchess encounters a new ally in the form of a fellow prisoner who came from the Spires long ago and who may hold the key to understanding everything. Left with no means of contact with the outside world, she grows increasingly desperate to find a way out and free the packs from the Emperor’s grasp. But freedom does not come without its cost, and if she wants to have any hope of rescuing everyone she cares about, she will need to turn to the one group who appears to act outside the Order’s control. However, these strangers have their own motives for helping and may prove just as dangerous as her enemies.
As age-old rivalries are ignited anew, the fate of everyone is once more called into question.
