Publisher's Summary

Cecily Stalks is an 18-year-old girl trying to cope with the stress of her father's suicide. She hates her job at the local tourist spot, the infamous Bramble Hall, she has a terrible relationship with her mother and she feels like her childhood friends are leaving her behind. She also has to deal with the vivid nightmares she has been having since her father's death: dreams about battlefields, war, a struggle between good and evil forces, and shadows. The shadows are most disturbing and they seem to be coming ever closer. An encounter with the shadows from her nightmares sends her on a journey of betrayal, confusion, heartbreak, and the discovery of the unseen world of light and dark. Cecily has always been part of this world, but why can't she remember? Who is Cecily Stalks? Will she get her memory back? Let the journey of self-discovery begin...again.

Blackout

This book was ok,I felt it was geared more toward teenagers. It did not hold my interest or draw me in and I did not find the characters anyone I would like to know.I did wonder why, since the main character was obviously British, that they did not use a brit narrator.Allie James was good, but not as familiar with the vernacular.I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Mystery Fantasy

This was an interesting and entertaining book. The nightmares that haunt the main protagonist, Cecily, are unceasing. Her friends are usually very supportive but for some unknown reason, one of them turns on her, seemingly weary of her constant anguish over the nightmares and loss of sleep. The mystery behind her dreams becomes evident and the ensuing mayhem ramps up the pace of this book. The revelations regarding the betrayals, dreams, and danger are surprising. Cecily's growth at the end was so believable, perfectly written. I liked the interaction of Cecily and her friends very much.

I'm glad I found this book. It was a treat. I was given this book upon my request for a review. It was a fun read!

An exciting and immersive experience

An exciting and engaging story that comes alive with vivid imagery. The narration by Allie James had me so immersed that I forgot about my surroundings on more than one occasion while listening. As someone who read the book before listening to the audiobook, I can recommend Blackout as one of those stories that are definitely worth reading twice. The second time around you'll notice the significance of all those little details and appreciate author Katy A. Mitchell's talent that much more!

I am eagerly waiting for the sequel(s) and film(s) because I honestly can't get enough of the Light and Dark universe!

Incredible.

It wasn’t at all what I expected it to be.

I’ve enjoyed this book immensely. The beginning of the book started out leaving you with questions and having to listen to more in order to find out the answers. I wasn’t able to stop listening and finished it in one sitting.

I’m looking forward to a second book and I will be checking out other works from this author.

Sensational

Blackout was absolutely more than I could have imagined. This book was original and creative. I love the writing especially the development of the characters. The characters are relatable and absolutely likeable. The plot has a lot of twist and turns that floored me but I loved them. I am utterly impressed by author Katy A. Mitchell. Allie James as the narrator was perfect her voice flowed with each character. I received this review copy per my request. I am voluntarily leaving an honest review because this book is phenomenal. This is definitely a book you don't want to miss. I can't wait to read more from this author.

One of my Favs

From the get-go you notice that the Narrator has a clear and crisp voice, a soothing accent that easies you in to the story from its very beginning...Speaking of which, the story starts off well, beautifully constructed, instantly drawing you in to the life of the supposed (at the time of me writing this) protagonist...the story is quick paced (and remains so till the end) and there’s not much rambling before it gets to the juicy bits, I’m quickly reminded about my recent admiration and discovery of new unrecognised authors and how well they measure up or at times surpass some well known names in Literature, I’m more appreciative of individuals discerning enough to buy and support such works... Blackout is not one to disappoint, it does have a section where the characters seek refugee in a location they should or ordinarily would have known better not to go to as well as a part where the characters should (again ordinarily would) have been more weary and responsive to the shadow beasts that were circulating dark corners of the great hall, except for a few instances like this the story was pretty much perfect...in all it was compelling and very well written...One of the best stories I’ve read as of recent or to be honest, in a while, and would be perfect if the issues I’ve described are addressed in the next offering... a brilliant start for a debut author who has a promise of becoming a well known name... I can’t wait for the sequel
