Publisher's Summary

Six BBC TV episodes starring Rowan Atkinson, Miranda Richardson, Stephen Fry, Hugh Laurie, and Tony Robinson.

England 1558-1603. The filthy genes of the Blackadder dynasty bubble to the surface of history's melting pot as Lord Edmund, arrogant peer-about-town, swaggers with a big head and small beard in search of grace and favour from the stark raving mad Queen Bess.

Listen as Lord Blackadder falls in love with a girl named Bob, takes over the job of executioner whilst almost losing his own head, schemes to raise 1,000 pounds to pay off a perverted Bishop, goes on a far-off sea voyage to the remote country of France, and plays Charades with a member of the Spanish Inquisition.

Accompanied by a small rabble of beruffed riff-raff (bottom-breath Baldrick and pea-brain Percy) the serpentine Lord Blackadder lowers the whole tone of England's Golden Age.

The collection includes the following episodes: "Bells", "Head", "Potato", "Money", "Beer", and "Chains".

Hilarious as always

Blackadder has always been one of my favorite TV shows and the audio version is EXCELLENT!! The only thing missing is the TV which is great because I can listen to the shows while I am working. I hope audible will expand on their BBC comedy series because they are very, very funny...if you like British comedy that is.

Better on screen

These audio recordings are simply the audio track from the series. I understood this when I downloaded it, so I wasn't disappointed in any way. However, some of the humor is lost by having the audio alone. Five stars for the series, only three for the audio.

Good for Blackadder fans

Keep in mind this is strictly the audio portion of the tv show. The performances are good and the lack of visuals really didn't reduce the fun of the series by much. I gave it a lower rating for performance because the quality of the audio was not that good and made it difficult to hear in places. Although, if you love blackadder this is one you will want.

Always Great, but...

I can't find a thing at fault with Black Adder II itself. It's just as wonderful as it always was. The only thing I would have changed is...If they could have made one file per episode, it would be a lot easier to select which one I want to listen to. (My player doesn't allow for fast forward or rewind.)

Wonderful Britcom!

Unlike the first Blackadder series, this Elizabethan one relies on dialogue, wordplay and wit.

I can listen to it over and over again.

Hilarious

Where does Blackadder II rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

In this genre of comedy, this broadcast captured some truly excellent acting and the storylines were laugh out loud funny.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Blackadder II?

Not to ruin the surprise - each of the acts had moments of sheer brilliance.

What about the narrators’s performance did you like?

Group performance - each of the actors delivered a solid performance.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Easily - i enjoyed from beginning to end, and it has high repeat listening value

Any additional comments?

Great show - I'd recommend watching the television show - to better visualize the characters and the scene.

If you are new to Blackadder, start here

Other reviewers have advised to skip season one and start with two. I agree after doing exactly what they told me not to do. I never saw the tv show and season one left me bleh. But I kept on because friends promised better things. So glad I did. One of the wittiest series on Audible. And if you like this, check out Fawlty Towers. Old Harry's Game, which is a comedic romp with Satan on his eternal rounds of hell, also has nice moments. Cabin Pressure has Benedict Cumberbatch. Need any more convincing?

Adolescent.

I loved this series when I was in High School.
Apparently, I've grown up a lot since then and now it just seems unpleasantly silly. I also don't think it works well as audio. The laugh track is obviously reacting to sight gags which makes a rough go rougher.

Superb

The entire second series of Blackadder is available to listen to on your ipod should you wish! I remember listening to this on tape back when mp3's were nothing other than a dream. We laughed then, we laugh now but with better audio quality. This series is nothing short of brilliant. It is an amazingly well written series and every episode is available here. Rowan Atkinson and co do a supreme job. It is so very funny and feels timeless (how could it not being set in the time of Queen Elizabeth I) but remains as funny now as it did when I first heard and saw it. Fantastic.

Classic TV works in audio form

Blackadder is one of the funniest comedies ever, and if you're familiar with the series then just hearing the audio will not diminish your enjoyment - it almost makes it better in a way, as you're picturing the scenes as you hear it. This may not be the best introduction to the series for those who have never seen it on TV, as some jokes will be lost on them, but if you've seen it as many times as I have you will love this.

Blackadder II

Really disappointed that all six episodes appear as one file so you can't select an individual episode to listen to, you have to listen to all six as on block.

excellent ,a really good listen.

Even though there are few visual gags in the series, this recording doesn't suffer from the fact that you can't see them, especially if you're a regular to the series,

Very good.

Enjoyed re living the series through audio even though at times there were visual jokes that were better translated on screen (not as bad as the first Blackadder series as I found a lot of the jokes were visual) I was still able to enjoy it as if you are a big Blackadder fan like me you have seen the visual jokes plenty of times and will remember what they look like. Recommend.

Go back to the DVD

It had difficulty standing on its own without the visual memory of the TV to really enjoy it.
