Andy McDermott produces yet another great book
- By Richard S. Swol on 07-21-20
By: Andy McDermott
Publisher's Summary
The seventh book in the best-selling Danny Black series.
A series of gruesome killings take place in Dubai, Ghana and America. The victims are all connected with the SAS.
In Hereford Danny Black realises they have something more specific in common - they were all involved in training a young Muslim soldier, Ibrahim Khan. Khan has been working undercover in Islamic State in a mission organised by MI6. Danny Black sets out to track him down with the help of Khan's MI6 handler on a trail that leads him to a library of ancient manuscripts in Damascus, the Syrian desert and finally back in the Brecon Beacons.
There Danny discovers that he has finally met his match, his deadliest enemy - and it is the last person he ever expected.

Gripping and action packed
One of my favourite from the Danny Black series so far.
Lots of action, twists and attention to detail. It doesn’t shy away from a bit of grisly violence, however this is done in a way necessary to portray the horror in the story.
Great read, very gripping, looking forward to the next!

Great book, not so great narrator.
The book and story were great. The narrator let it down. Pretty much every character seemed to be from Birmingham. If you can't to accents then just leave it and talk normal.

Too short and not as good as others in the series
Didn’t like it as much as the others in the series; it seemed pretty short. The fast pace of the book appeared to be at the expense of further development of the characters and situations.

An impressive addition to the series
This book, like many of Chris Ryan's is at its best when talking about the things that might seem ordinary but for a special forces soldier they are not. How to stop a car, how to cross a boarder unobserved etc. The need to pack a whole story into less than ten hours stretches the scenario a bit but the reader needs to understand that this is hard to avoid.
Chris Ryan also describes the confusion, moral ambiguity and pressures soldiers like Danny Black face every day. Still clever and still enjoyable. Anyone else miss Spud?

Narrator’s impersonation lacking
The story would have been good but the narrator spoiled Dan Black’s voice. Making it sound too brush and at times rude.

Gripping
Gripping story and performance. Although, does the narrator need to make Danny seem so aggressive all the time to everybody he encounters?
