Publisher's summary

It's 2050, and humans are an endangered species. Lieutenant Robert Sutton has survived the collapse of civilization by luck, his wits, and a chance mutation that makes him immune to the nanovirus that has wiped out millions. Now, his compound of survivors is surrounded by the infected, who are driven by the need to spread the contagion through sex. It is only a matter of time before they attack. So when Sutton is assigned to interrogate a prisoner who claims to have overcome the infection, he immediately suspects a trap....

Nicholas Rider may have survived the virus, but he's a changed man, ruled by his desires. But his need for Sutton is different. Rider craves an end to his overwhelming needs, and Sutton could be the man to do it.

Secure in his belief that he's invulnerable, Sutton can't understand or resist his intense attraction to his prisoner. Will Rider be his downfall - or his savior?

Interesting story with a good narrator

I can't for the life of me figure out what previous reviewers were looking for in this book. So, because the book is so short, I listened to the book again, and still didn't get it. It is almost as if they wanted to read/hear a longer book, though it was clear that it’s only three hours long. For me this book was well written, and well read, with lots of action and character development. Obviously the character development is on the thin side, but knowing that the story is so short you expect that, right. I mean you won't be able to fully flesh out a character in 94 pages, so why judge so harshly. I found the book engaging and engrossing, and I think that that is because I wasn't expecting the author to write the next Lord of the Rings.

Great! Hope there is a sequal

This is m/m romance...if you don't like it... don't buy it... Simple!

This was very good for m/m. There is not a lot of m/m on audible that is worth anything, but this was really good. Once the story got going... I enjoyed it. It took a while to understand what was happening and who the characters were, but by the end of the 1st chapter...it all made sense. The smex was actually really good.. but it was like way into the book.. like chapter 5, I think. Good story... worth the credit. not a buy, a definite credit.

Bitter... Yes I Am

Would you try another book from Kim Knox and/or Shannon Gunn?

I will definitely buy another book narrated by Shannon Gunn - this is already my second, but will not be purchasing another story written by Ms. Knox.

What could Kim Knox have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

The premise of the book had much potential, but fell flat on many levels. As it is, the book is more of a novella. Not a lot of time to get a message across and what time there was, is wasted.

There was a lot of reiteration on the same issues - was Rider infected?, who was he?, if Annabel is infected I'll kill him, etc.. I found myself wanting to FF just to get to a point. What I found after listening to over 2/3 of the story is that there wasn't much of one. The book was really too short for that. I was looking forward to a steamy listen, but all I got was all talk - very little action. A bit more detail could have been given to flesh out an explanation on the infection that the characters were trying to avoid and the backgroung on the main characters. The physical interaction between Rider & Sutton was also sorely lacking. The constant banter - and there was a lot of it, wore on me very quickly. Very repetative

If the author did a re-write, I'd read it. The subject matter caught my attention but couldn't keep it.

Which character – as performed by Shannon Gunn – was your favorite?

I liked Rider - very cocky and sure of himself. The British accent was fitting. Could have been quite the sexy character if he'd been allowed to play more.

Could you see Bitter Harvest being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

If it was written better - yes. I would love to see Michael Fassbender as Rider. Not sure about Sutton.

Great Narrator and Decent Book

I have enjoyed this and several other titles by Kim Knox. Her hallmark of the big tease and original paranormal settings mesh really well with the romance at the heart of the story. This is a novella - not too short and of a good enough length to get into the characters. Very graphic but very enjoyable.

Pretty Good Sci Fi

Enjoyable MM sci fi mash up. I enjoyed the match up here. The sex scenes were amazing and the plot strong, good narration.

Narrator makes is worth buying

This is one of those books where the audio version is much better than the written. The narrator is fantastic (Shannon Gunn) and brings a mediocre story to life In a brilliant sexy way. His voice is like black velvet as he spins the tale. This is a short story told from the middle of a post apocalyptic event; but there is no beginning or ending really. Too bad really, I would have been curious about the "save the bees" story arc, but there is no follow through. There is a whole lot of sex going on in ridiculously inappropriate times and places. It is almost funny. But that said, it wasn't painful to listen to, especially with Shannon Gunn. I'm use to him in the Men of Smithfield narrations, but in this one he may give Jack LeFleur a run.

It is worth a listen if it is on sale.

Bitter experience, not Bitter Harvest.

This book wasn???t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Bitter Harvest was a good storyline but the writing left a lot to be desired.

What do you think your next listen will be?

Ava March: Brook Street Thief.

Did Shannon Gunn do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

The Narrator did an ok job on the characters but at first I thought it was Australian not English.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Bitter Harvest?

I would rewrite the two main characters to be more likeable.

Any additional comments?

I had to review this book for Night Owl Romance Reviews. I didn't give it a good review there either.
