Publisher's summary

This memoir and biography unfolds the inspiring internal and external spiritual odyssey of Yamuna Devi's devotional life recalled in her memories, talks, journals, and writings, as well as the remembrances of the author and other associates and friends.

It is supplemented with relevant music and live recordings of Yamuna Devi, some of which have never been heard before, which complements the text of the book.

In Part One, Yamuna Devi meets her spiritual preceptor, Srila Prabhupada, at her sister's wedding in 1966 and begins her first tentative steps in Bhakti. In San Francisco she and a group of friends establish a vibrant temple and celebrate Rathayatra. Yamuna is initiated, married, and begins cooking for Srila Prabhupada. She, her husband, and two other couples then travel to London and ignite the fire of Sankirtan in England. She records with George Harrison at Apple Studios and helps establish a temple in London. Her Guru's promise to take her to India is fulfilled in 1970, when she travels with the World Sankirtan Party throughout India.

Despite hardships and obstacles along the path, the seed of Yamuna Devi's Bhakti grows and matures into a life of unalloyed devotion.

I Felt Like I Was in the Spiritual World

I could listen to this book over and over. Dinatarini Devi deserves as much praise as she give Yamuna Devi in this beautiful narration of Yamuna Devi’s life in Krishna consciousness. I also got to know Srila Prabhupada because of Yamuna Devi’s extensive association with him. He is our pure devotee Spiritual Master life and life. Thank you so very much Dinatarini for this wonderful, blissful narration of your book, which I also bought so I could have the photos you mention.

Testimony of Pue Devotion

This is one of the best audiobooks I’ve ever listened to. It’s a plus to have the author as the speaker. This book provides possibly the most comprehensive account of the history of ISKCON, with a special emphasis on the female point of view. I also appreciate the extensive utilization of the memoirs of other devotees, as well as the Lilamrta.

Yamuna devi was great devotee. (One day she should get a Wikipedia page.)

This is very nice!!

From the early days in New York and San Francisco to the Beatles to the start of the Hare Krishna movement in India, this book has it all. From the point of view of a very sincere disciple. My favorite part is there has been much inspiration to raise my own standard of devotion as a result of reading this wonderful book!
