Publisher's summary

In the blink of an eye, Mom ran up behind me and pushed me into the fence. Instinctively, I reached out my arms to stop my fall and ended up grabbing the live fence. My hands clamped around the thin wires, and my body collapsed to the ground as the electricity coursed through it. I opened my eyes and saw my mother standing over me with the strangest smile on her face. "Oh, my God, I’m going to die!" I thought in panic.

Imagine never being able to close your eyes and remember the feel of your mother’s arms wrapped around you. Now imagine closing your eyes and remembering your mother’s tears splashing down on your face as she is on top of you, crying as she is trying to choke you to death. My mother left me these memories and many more during my traumatic childhood. After many years of struggling with trying to understand "Why me?" I took back control of my life and started saying, "It was me, now what am I going to do?"

The answer is my book, "Why Me?" It is my childhood journey through the terrors of physical and mental abuse from first grade until the day I moved out. It is my way of letting the world know what was really going on behind closed doors.

Truly heart breaking

the fact that people rate this book lower than a 5 because they are upset with her mother is BS you rate this book a 234 all because the mother upset you... rate this book based on the AUTHOR you know the one endured all this...

Unsatisfactory Ending

This book is frustrating. It will leave you furious with the mother because there is no real ending. It leaves you wanting to find this woman and hand out justice on behalf of this little kid. The fact this woman was allowed to live out her life without some sort of punishment is outright disgusting!!

Wow, what a read.

Way Back when I was in middle school, I remember reading, “A Child Named It”. That book stuck with me for life. This book will do the same. What a painful childhood Sarah endured.
This is a Heartfelt read that is a page turner (or quick listen because it’s so tough to hit that pause button.
I was a foster parent for 9.5 years for primarily teenagers. My son that I adopted (at age 13) from foster care was abused while in the system. I’m going to share this book with the social-workers I am in contact with, in hope they recommend it to the kids they are assigned to.
I know my son is going to enjoy reading this.
I recommend this book for ages 12/13 and up.

Love the moral of the story....There is hope. Do not give up. Tomorrow will be better.

Tragic

A very emotional story of abuse that nobody should have to endure. it makes me angry that Sarah's mother never had to pay for what she did to her daughter. I thought the narrator did a great job and put in the right amount of emotion into telling this story.

horrific story

I want to find this woman that beat and abused her daughter, i hope she rots in hell! Unfortunately this goes on in many homes and should never ever be tolerated. It kept my interest and made me wish I could help children like this. Life is not all sunshine and roses we need to be on the lookout for these abused children.

God Bless You, Sarah

Dear Sarah, I am without words for what you have been through. You are a survivor. I thank God you wrote your story. May your story continue to unfold lovingly embracing the life you now live. You give others a window into your life and a way out. May Jesus blanket you with his love, his guidance, and his purpose for you and all who He puts in your path. Love to you from a mom. Amen.

Wow! Just Wow!

Such a heartbreaking story. I grew up in a very loving home, yet I felt the pain of her abuse as if I experienced it with her. I’m disappointed the abuse went unnoticed by the authorities for 16 years, despite the obvious signs. I was so relieved for the happy ending and how empowered the author has become since escaping the torture. Well done, you’re a scarred, flawed, vulnerable, and beautiful example of a survivor.

I find the use of the N word highly offensive.

Not at all impressed. Narration could be a lot better. Unnecessary use of the N Word
