Publisher's summary

A military classic by a legendary American general.

War as I Knew It is the personal and candid account of General George S. Patton, Jr.'s celebrated, relentless crusade across Europe during World War II.

First published in 1947, this absorbing narrative draws on Patton's vivid memories of battle and his detailed diaries, from the moment the Third Army exploded onto the Brittany Peninsula to the final Allied casualty report. The result is not only a grueling, human account of daily combat but also a valuable chronicle of the strategies and fiery personality of a brilliant warrior.

Great book terrible narrator!

The book/ memoir written by General Patton himself is a great read as it is told by he the man himself. But the narrator they chose is terrible! He sounds so dull and bored. You can tell he's only doing it for a paycheck. He lacks charisma and fails to draw you into the story at all. The story itself is great, but told by this boring narrator, finishing the title seemed like a chore. It's a shame really

Horrible Narration.

The story is excellent, but the narrator sounds like the teacher from Ferris Bueller's Day Off. If you enjoy feeling like you are in a boring lecture hall, then this is the book for you.

Patton in his own words

All students of mi!itary history, especially the twentieth century should read all the
memoirs of major and minor participant's, which they can. General Patton sadly died before he ds diary and the work he was doing with the 15th Army after losing the
3rd Army marks a candid ,compelling and truthfully.. I recommend not only lisiintercluding in your personal library..

Disappointed in this book

The vast majority of this book seemed to be written like a bland "after action" debrief, which makes sense coming from a general. A debrief while informative with historical facts is not very exciting. Also the reader of the book is one note away from being considered monotone. The only way I was able to get through the book was to speed it up to 1.30

Section 3 was the most interesting in regards to combat leadership principles.

A must read for anyone in a leadership position.

The narrator did a splendid job illustrating the words of the late great General. The only person who could one up this performance would be George C. Scott.

The best!

United State needs more Generals like Patton.
In this new century United States has declined in the world. It has diminished the values that made us unique and successful for two centuries.
Hopefully a new figure, of Patton stature, will arise to lead us in our future.

Pure Enjoyment

Patton's memoirs allowed me a different perspective on this mythical hero. The performance itself made me feel like Patton was telling me his story, as I listened awestruck.

Legendary Diary from the legend himself.

WW2 insights of a most impactful U.S. Army Commander. Never knew of his philosophy to avoid defensive operations at all costs.
