Publisher's Summary

"Outside were stray animals and people, each about some pursuit. Sometimes it was a beggar at the door, sometimes a leprous hand reaching for a handout with a plea for compassion. Life with all its hurts and pains squinted at you, squatted before you, and stared you down daily. This was the street where I grew up."

Ravi Zacharias has lived an extraordinary life. He has walked with great leaders, slept in the villages and homes of the poor, and crossed continents to bring the good news of the gospel to the world. Already a man of two worlds by the time he was 20, Ravi never dreamed that God would lead him from his birth home in India to Canada and the United States, and eventually to a platform on the world stage.

For 33 years he has spoken all over the world. He has addressed writers of the peace accord in South Africa, the president's cabinet and parliament in Peru, and military officers at the Lenin Military Academy and the Center for Geopolitical Strategy in Moscow. He has given the keynote address at the National Day of Prayer in Washington, DC, and has spoken twice at the Annual Prayer Breakfast at the United Nations in New York.

Walking from East to West is Ravi's life story, a deeply personal journey into his past. Dr. Zacharias invites you back to the southern India of his early childhood, and into his troubled youth in the sophisticated capital city of Delhi. He recalls the importance of a mother's love and his difficult relationship with his father. He tells about his long search for truth in wrestling with Eastern thought and the newer ideas of Christianity, the cry for help in a dark moment when he tried to take his own life - and the dramatic turning point that led to a life lived for Christ. Zacharias recalls his early days as a new convert, what it was like to find a new life in the Western world, and the eventual birth and growth of a worldwide ministry.

Life Changing Book!

What made the experience of listening to Walking from East to West the most enjoyable?

The story of Ravi Zacharias' is awe insprieing. It is a story of a man whose life was radically changed and prepared to preach and teach the Gosple all over the world. His focus is on the salvation that comes through Christ not on the strengths of his own efforts or desires.

What does Simon Vance bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I would have liked to hear it from Ravi himself but Simon Vance actually did an amazing job and it was easy to just sit down and listen to his voice.

Inspiring

This was a great book. I actually stumbled upon based on the author. while it was an autobiography, there was also an element of encouragement to grow in your own faith with God.

A True Story that Read Like a Great Novel

Would you consider the audio edition of Walking from East to West to be better than the print version?

I purchased the Whispersync version, which was Kindle and Audible combined. I would recommend it.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Ravi has a remarkable story. You not only grow to know him but also his mother, father, siblings and friends.

Which scene was your favorite?

(spoiler) The scene where he is in the hospital after trying to commit suicide, and the Youth for Christ worker comes in, gives Ravi's mother a Bible, and points to John 14:19. Powerful stuff.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

"None of your life will be wasted."

Any additional comments?

Just a terrific listen. I was worried that the book would lose something because Ravi wasn't reading it, but Simon Vance did a spectacular job. Finished this book in 3 days, which is a fast listen for me.

The Story of a True Hero of the Faith

I hold Ravi Zacharias in as high regard as I do anyone. He speaks the truth in love and models grace and truth. This book is the story of his life and it truly shows what God can and will do with a willing vessel. I highly recommend this book and anything by Ravi and his ministry RZIM. Always a winner!

I have been reading and listening to Mr. Zacharias's books for a long time now. I have never been disappointed with any of his work. But this book in particular move me to tears. the sensitive and tender way that Razi Zacharias delved into hard to talk about moments of his childhood allowed me to sympathize and relive his childhood through his words. At the same time it touched me and brought memories of my own childhood and my own relationship to my father to the forefront of my mind. Don't read this book if you do not wish to be moved, changed, and totally altered because that's what this book will do.

Absolutely marvelous

I have respected and admired Ravi four years and this book shows why. As Ravi tells about his life on each side of the globe we learn what helped make him who he is today which is a great tool to assist us as we do some self examination.
I knew that I would enjoy this book, I knew that I would be keyed in areas where I could better myself; but I was not expecting this book to inspire and energize me to this extent to increase my ministry! Truly inspirational, heartwarming, enlightening , humbling, and motivating. It's Ravi at his best.
GOD BLESS!!

Worth Many Times More

This is a story of God at work in a life of a willing man. It is a robust, engaging, and beautiful work.
After now listening to it, I realize that I would of paid many times more to hear this story. It has stirred some of the deepest reaches of my heart, and many times I have had to pause to take it all in.
This book reveals, how marvelous is God, and how astounding His work has been in Ravi Zacharias.

Very Encouraging

Ravi's life story is quite interesting because of how different his childhood in India was compared to mine in the USA, yet the parallel of having a father who is inexplicably disconnected is sadly similar. The weaving of the loose ends of his life into a God-breathed pattern gives me hope that God is interested in being an integral Person in our lives.

One of my better purchases!

An extremely interesting biography of the Christian apologist and teacher. I had heard his name but knew little about him and after listening to the excerpt thought it sounded interesting. It was much better than I expected, both in all he had to say about his life growing up in India and all that happened to him in North America. It was full of human interest, and once I started listened I could not stop. The Simon Vance reads well, and just faded into the background.

Fascinating autobiography

I found this autobiography fascinating and at times moving. Ravi has certainly had a very interesting life, and I particularly like the way he traces God's hand throughout it, and gives Him the glory for what he has achieved. He has many humorous but also touching anecdotes to tell, from his youth in India to the many interesting encounters and experiences he has had all over the world as part of his ministry. The book is read very well by Simon Vance, and I would thoroughly recommend it.
