Publisher's summary

From the author of Blue Like Jazz comes a road-trip memoir about three months spent crossing the country in a Volkswagen camping van, wondering out loud if there is more to life than nine-to-five jobs, than the ruts the entire world seem to be stuck in. Follow Don and Paul as they dive headlong into the deepest of human questions and find answers outside words - answers that have to be experienced to be believed.

As you listen to Through Painted Deserts, you'll soon realize this is not just one man's account of finding light, God, and beauty on the open road. Rather, it maps the journey you're already traveling...or soon will be.

A youthful wisdom

Wish I had these kinds of thoughts in my twenties, you are a blessed man Mr. Miller.

Insightful and inspiring.

My only complaint about this book is that it's offered only in an abridged format... Miller writes wonderful prose and it's a shame that it's been cut down to fit this format.
Otherwise, though, it's a great book and was tough to put down. Narration by the author was great as well.

One of my all time favorites

I've read this book numerous times and it never ceases to amaze me. What Donald accomplished with linguistics in describing God in a practical and tangible way in unfathomable. I'm always left in awe.

It's amazing how many times this guy has to use analogies...his writing is tedious and one can really get the sense that this author is truly in love with his use of adjectives and flowery language
