Publisher's Summary

It takes a tough mind-set to be a successful sniper, to be able to dig in for days on your own as you wait for your target, to stay calm on a battlefield when you yourself have become the target the enemy most wants to take out. Craig Harrison has what it takes, and in November 2009 in Afghanistan, under intense pressure, he saved the lives of his comrades with the longest confirmed sniper kill - 2,475 metres, the length of 25 football pitches.

In this unflinching autobiography, Craig catapults us into the heat of the action as he describes his active service in the Balkans, Iraq and Afghanistan and gives heart-stopping accounts of his sniper ops as he fought for his life on the rooftops of Basra and the barren hills of Helmand province. Craig was blown up by an IED in Afghanistan and left battling severe PTSD. After his identity was revealed in the press, he also had to cope with al-Qaeda threats against him and his family. For Craig, the price of heroism has been devastatingly high.

Interesting glimpse into the troubled mind

This is a good look into the mind of a sniper and his demons, its quite gritty and without compliments to how troubled young people end up dealing with their issues after a long serving career in the military

Truly inspiring!

This book is truly inspiring, a real life view of what our armed forces deal with week in week out. The people at home they protect are not worthy! A true hero!

Great story spoiled by some average narration

The memoirs of Craig Harrison are informative, interesting, addictive, thought provoking and at times both thought provoking and distressing. A great listen but a shame that the narrator irritated me a short time in when mimicking any additional character, especially when that character had a raised or officers voice

A Class!

Absolutely incredible listen. Hooked from start to finish. I would also like to say that I and my family appreciate all the sacrifices made from not just Craig, also everyone who has help defend our freedom and life in this country. Many thanks. James from Cumbria.

A true brave man

Hero is a word bandied about too easily but maverick 41 deserves to be accredited with it. His honesty and openness is refreshing his story truly touched me with humble admiration his humble account of his exploits and his spiral into ptsd is a remarkable account of a service man and his service of his country. If you think the world of the sniper is all glory and bravado read this account of the best sniper the armed forces have ever seen. Well done and gratitude for your service Maverick 41

Worth a Read

I enjoyed the book, more so the latter half. Having a military background (Australia) I had worked with KRH many years ago, I certainly could relate. I really enjoyed the technical aspects and field craft, however his treatment towards the end brought me to tears. I wasn't particularly taken with the first half with some of the embellishments. I have great respect for the Brits. He was clearly a dedicated, skilled, brave and thorough professional who really cared about his Diggers. His treatment by the MoD and Media was appalling. I wish him and his family the very best for the future.

A great account of a snipers role in war

An excellent book and well read. I would highly recommend. The mental aspects of war and its toll on the men on the front line are layed out to bare also.
