Publisher's summary

Introducing Laurie Notaro, the leader of the Idiot Girls' Action-Adventure Club. Every day she fearlessly rises from bed to defeat the evil machinations of dolts, dimwits, and creepy boyfriends - and that's before she even puts on a bra.

For the past 10 years, Notaro has been entertaining Phoenix newspaper readers with her wildly amusing autobiographical exploits and unique life experiences. She writes about a world of hourly-wage jobs that require absolutely no skills, a mother who hands down judgments more forcefully than anyone seated on the Supreme Court, horrific high-school reunions, and hangovers that leave her surprised she woke up in the first place.

The misadventures of Laurie and her fellow Idiot Girls ("too cool to be in the Smart Group") unfold in a world that everyone will recognize but no one has ever described so hilariously. She delivers the goods: life as we all know it.

Sweet and funny

I wont say I cried tears of laugher, but I can say that
this book made a bad day brighter. Careful with the chapter transitions though, they happen quite fast. other than that I really enjoyed this.

Acceptable, but not great.

Not as funny as Sedaris. So that's a bummer, but then, who is? Nobody, really.

Poor to Mediocre

Some of Notaro's book is funny, but I found her comments about her neighbour children and their mother spoiled this narrative for me. These comments seem strangely incongruent in the broader context of this narrative. On the one hand, the writer aims to present herself as flawed (a lot of her humour is directed at herself); on the other hand, she seems to moralize when discussing this family, without seeming to give any consideration to the sorts of socio-economic circumstances that make it difficult for some people to have what many would perceive as the perfect nuclear family. The comments she makes about the two little girls and their mother are irritating and didactic.

LAUGHED OUTLOUD

I cannot remember when I have enjoyed a book so much! Funny, clever , witty...
I saw myself in so many of the stories. Hilary Huber as the narrator is pure pleasure to listen to.

Great story, dry reader

When my wife was reading this book she would burst out laughing. While listening to this I heard some of the same stories that would bring tears to my wife's eyes, but when delivered here it barely brought a chuckle.

Really funny, perfect narrator!

Very witty writing paired with the perfect voice. Huber always delivers, but she has really nailed this snarky character.

Not as good as Fat Bride

The narrator does an excellent job. However this novel wasnt as good as Fat Bride.
