Publisher's summary

Gavin McInnes is more than just a rude lunatic who keeps getting beat up. He is an icon who personifies irreverence for an entire generation. This is his story, or, rather, stories - lots of them, and all gut-punchingly hilarious, from that first far reach into a girl's tight jeans to turning forty with a cataclysmic party.

In between you’ll hear about acid trips, threesomes, Nazi skinheads, his band Anal Chinook (Inuit for “warm wind”), Martians in northern Canada, throwing pedophiles in jail, dinner with the Clash, what happens when you crash Bill Maher's show wasted, and the true story of Vice magazine. A gifted writer and a born storyteller, McInnes has lived his life without apology. Learn from it.

Surprisingly insightful

In a nutshell:
Entertaining, insightful, but in no means a "How-To" or a political/social commentary. Can be enjoyed by Gavin fans or foes, especially if you're looking for a gritty nonfiction and enjoy authors such as Hunter S Thompson, Ellis, Bukowski, or Palaniuk. Read by the author himself which gives the added feeling he is personally recounting to you a story.

-------
As of late Gavin has become an even more controversial figure. To those that hate him, I highly suggest listening to this book. You may find your opinion changes.

Written more like a good friend telling you a story at a bar than a biography; the book has several very descriptive chapters of sex, vandalism, fights, drugs, and business deals before eventually aging and maturing into a husband and father.

Reads more like Hunter S Thompson's gonzo journalism mixed with Ellis' "American Psycho," Bukowski's "Women," and Palaniuk's "Choke."

This book is very different than a Gavin podcast. It contains very little commentary on politics or social issues. So if you're looking for a book that strokes your views of Hillary, Trump, Feminism, Antifa, Proud Boys, or Abortion, this is not what you're looking for. It is through and through a collection of the craziest life stories of a Canadian Punk who fueled by drugs, alcohol, and mischievous sex acts, grew up, moved to New York, started Vice, and eventually stepped into the sobering cold shower that is adulthood.

While I wouldn't say it made me respect Gavin any more/less, it certainly provided an insightful look into his life, leading up to the infamous and often hated figure he is now.

Gavin is a funny, smart, twisted, cool dude.

Where does The Death of Cool rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I love audio books especially when the author narrates them. Gavin reads this book to you and you can tell from his voice which is the key part and which are the joke parts.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Death of Cool?

The power going out in NYC sounded like a great night. The threesome also sounded like it would be a great time, however brief.

Which character – as performed by Gavin McInnes – was your favorite?

Gavin himself.

Any additional comments?

It's a good book. READ IT.

Amazing, fun, and honest.

I really enjoyed this book, especially hearing it narrated by the author himself. There’s a lot in this book that mirrors my experience in the punk rock scene in my teens and twenties, and it was fun to hear the parallels (ok maybe Gavin’s experience was a LITTLE more intense than mine, but you get the idea.)

Great book. Not highbrow bullshit, just a good time.

One of a kind

Hands down the funniest and wildest book I have ever listened to. This is definitely a book to listen to with headphones from how raunchy it gets. I have never roared with laughter the way this book made me. That being said, its also got some touching emotional parts and valuable advice.

Leave your politics behind you, this book is unlike any I’ve ever listened to.
