Publisher's summary

The Bedford Boys is the astonishing true story of 21 young men who were killed during the first horrifying minutes of D-Day and the friends and families they left behind in the small town of Bedford. Twenty-one sons killed - no other town in America suffered a greater loss in one day. It is an unforgettable story of triumph, courage, and tragedy based on extensive interviews with survivors and relatives as well as diaries and letters.

Alex Kershaw's remarkable book brings to vivid, heartbreaking life the hitherto untold story of one small American town, their sons, and the brutal, bloody war that deprived them of their futures.

Review of “The Bedford Boys”

Learned a lot from “The Bedford Boys” by Alex Kershaw. War truly is held. It brings out the best and the worst in people. Excellent job by Alex Kershaw.

The first D-Day landing book that I’ve read with individual accounts.

There’s a lot of heartbreaking tales in here. A lot of stories of boys who didn’t come home. As a lover of freedom I want every one of those men who fought in WW2 to have the opportunity to tell their stories. In this small way I honor them. This book scores high marks for being able to provide detailed accounts of what happened on those beaches that day. I’m surprised that at times I was captured in the moment and my emotions welled up inside me. A+

Thanks

Great read on the Greatest Generation. The young should be taught about all the WARS of America. Then all the wars throughout history.

The Soldiers Who Made Bedford Proud

What an amazing story of bravery and courage. Hearing this story makes me appreciate the DDay Memorial in Bedford, Va even more. If you haven’t visited it, plan a trip.

excellent

Takes you to the front line - the description of the D-Day landing is totally engaging and leaves you in no doubt as to the true despair and horror of that place as well as the courage and spirit of the men who fought and died there

Heart wrenching as you put yourself in their boots

Finished this book very quickly. Couldnt't stop listening. I come from a small town and am in the National Guard, so it was very personal to hear what these boys went through and all they and those they left behind sacrificed for our country. The world cannot forget the evil they battled, and it must not be allowed to return. These men were truly brave, and each should be remembered as an American hero.

Unbelievable!

The sacrifice this town made is astounding. Kershaw has created a compelling drama that is certainly tragic yet an inspirational example of the American spirit.
