Publisher's Summary

From the veteran comedian and actor from The Wrestler and Louie comes a hilarious book of travel essays from his time on tour through secondary markets in the US, Canada, and Israel.

Hello. It's Todd Barry. Yes, the massively famous comedian. I have billons of fans all over the world, so I do my fair share of touring. While I love doing shows in the big cities (New York, Chicago, Cleveland), I also enjoy a good secondary market (Rochester, Springfield, Toledo). There's something great about performing in a place where they don't expect to see you. They're appreciative. They say things like "thank you for coming to Hattiesburg" as much as they say "nice show". And almost every town has their version of a hipster coffee shop, so I can get in my comfort zone.

My original plan was to book one secondary market show in all 50 states in about a year, but that idea was funnier than anything in my act. So, instead of all 50 states in a year, my agent booked multiple shows in a lot of states, plus Israel and Canada.

Thank You for Coming to Hattiesburg is part tour diary, part travel guide, and part memoir. (Yes, memoir. Just like the thing presidents and former child stars get to write.) Follow me on my journey of small clubs and the occasional big amphitheater. Watch me make a promoter clean the dressing room toilet in Connecticut, see me stare at beached turtles in Maui, and see how I react when Lars from Metallica shows up to see me at a rec center in Northern California.

I'd love to tell you more, but I need to go book a flight to Evansville, Indiana.

    "Great read."

Good, quick read. It is a format that I assumed would be somewhat repetitive but I found the opposite to be true. It had a true feel of being "in on it" and behind the scene. Breaking the 4th wall. Most important...it was FUNNY!

"Todd's Delivery and Dry Wit Make This Great"
What made the experience of listening to Thank You for Coming to Hattiesburg the most enjoyable?

Listening to Todd tell his own story was a great choice. His delivery is flawless.

What other book might you compare Thank You for Coming to Hattiesburg to and why?

Unlike some of the autobiographies of other comedians like Maron or Martin, Todd keeps his personal life mostly personal and focuses instead on the main theme of what it is like to play smaller and less famous venues--and the trials of getting to those places. Why do so many comedy clubs and venues give Todd inadequate dressing rooms with dirty bathrooms and no water? These are the questions that I hope will be answered in the next book!

Have you listened to any of Todd Barry’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have all of Todd's CDs and his performance in this book felt like a comedy show made just for me.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

    "Always Ask For an Upgrade!"

    Any additional comments?

If you are a comedy nerd or a Todd Barry fan, sit back and get ready to laugh.

"Pathetic attempt at humor and satire. This was a sad effort and waste in every respect"

Todd BARRY is a stand up loser who possesses little if any creative and
ability. I took and chance and now know what to avoid at all costs!

"Not what I was expecting or hoping for..."
    Any additional comments?

I was anticipating the wry, dryly sarcastic observations that made me a Todd Barry fan. Instead it was just whiny and boring. I suppose he is just so un-prolific that he feels he has to save anything remotely humorous for his act. Definitely disappointed.

    "Great guy, great book"

This book is a refreshing take on comedy and touring. Most comedians will say that any city outside of NY or LA sucks. Todd Barry takes time learn about the places he is visiting and makes the most of it.

"Basically a detailed "how was your day?""

I'm a huge fan of todd's comedy and there were a handful of laugh out loud moments, but for the most part this was an uneventful read. It'd be like you explaining your day to your wife you could mix in some dry wit. It was generally a dull book.

    "So Barrylicious"

if you're familiar with his style, you'll really appreciate that special something he brings to each anecdote. I laughed out loud a few times, not just because of what he was describing, but his delivery was priceless! Good stuff.

    "Didn't want it to end!"

Todd has an intriguing combination of homely warmth and dry humor. I like his self revelations of his little neuroses and foibles--makes him so human and relatable. He also has a sharp intelligent sarcasm that's a good release for commonly annoying aspects of our society. His descriptions of how well and poorly he's treated at the clubs should be helpful to anybody hoping to become a stand up.comedian. I liked his satisfying descriptions of hecklers and how he dealt with them. For me the book could have been longer and gone into even more detail about how he crafts his acts and jokes. I'd like to see him write that book next. I listened to this book while I wasn't feeling well with the flu. So thank you Todd for cheering me up and helping my recovery. You're a funny guy!

"5 Star REVIEW you must HEAR this AUDIOBOOK"

    As the old saying goes:

    Its a real "Game-Changer".

This AUDIOBOOK tells you everything you need to know, about EVERYTHING...but mostly about a great comedian touring the land of North America. Hear T. Barry TELL IT LIKE IT IS like no comedian has EVER done before, so SKILLFULLY and ITIMATELY delivered ...This is really a masterclass in something much MORE than an "audiobook" could EVER define.
