Publisher's summary

New York Times best-seller.

A story-driven collection of essays on the 12 powerful phrases we use to sustain our relationships, from the best-selling author of Glitter and Glue and The Middle Place

"Kelly Corrigan takes on all the big, difficult questions here, with great warmth and courage." (Glennon Doyle)

Named one of the best books of the year by Real Simple and Bustle.

It's a crazy idea: trying to name the phrases that make love and connection possible. But that's just what Kelly Corrigan has set out to do here. In her New York Times best-selling memoirs, Corrigan distilled our core relationships to their essences, showcasing a warm, easy storytelling style. Now, in Tell Me More, she's back with a deeply personal, unfailingly honest, and often hilarious examination of the essential phrases that turn the wheel of life.

In "I Don't Know", Corrigan wrestles to make peace with uncertainty, whether it's over invitations that never came or a friend's agonizing infertility. In "No", she admires her mother's ability to set boundaries and her liberating willingness to be unpopular. In "Tell Me More", a facialist named Tish teaches her something important about listening. And in "I Was Wrong", she comes clean about her disastrous role in a family fight and explains why saying sorry may not be enough.

With refreshing candor, a deep well of empathy, and her signature desire to understand "the thing behind the thing", Corrigan swings between meditations on life with a preoccupied husband and two mercurial teenage daughters to profound observations on love and loss. With the streetwise, ever-relatable voice that defines Corrigan's work, Tell Me More is a moving and meaningful take on the power of the right words at the right moment to change everything.

"It is such a comfort just knowing that Kelly Corrigan exists: she is somehow both wise and self-deprecating; funny but unafraid of pain; frank but gentle. She is the sister/mother/best friend we all wish we could have and because of this big-hearted book, we all get to." (Ariel Levy, author of The Rules Do Not Apply)

"With full-bodied humor and radical sensitivity, Kelly Corrigan transforms the mundane pain of life into a necessary spiritual text of sorts, one that reminds us that we have the right to grieve but the obligation to be grateful. This book will remind you that you are human and of the fragile loveliness of being so." (Lena Dunham)

Critic reviews

"That she is so candidly aware of her own shortcomings...makes the journey of discovery with her great fun." (USA Today)

"Kelly Corrigan wrote the book - well, make that four - on the heart-tugging joyride that happens in real life. Whether she's being diagnosed with cancer in her thirties or watching her bigger-than-life father beat cancer or wryly observing other family members as well as herself, Corrigan's books are inspiring as well as so much fun to read." (Parade)

"With heartfelt humor and penetrating insight, Corrigan uses the pain, anguish, failure, and occasional successes in her life to explore the vital connection between the words we say and the relationships we develop, both with the people around us and ourselves.... Moving and deeply personal, Corrigan's portraits of love and loss urge readers to speak more carefully and hold on tighter to the people they love." (Kirkus Reviews)

hard but worth it

it's like being in her living room. what a great view of things- hard things and everyday things that are easy or could be hard. brought up a lot of feelings about death, parents, teenagers, self esteem, love, acceptance, forgiveness. the language was harsh for me, but as my dad once said, or I remember him saying, sometimes it is the only word that fits. at least if she is going to use harsh language, it seems like it fits. l enjoyed this book. I listened to it in one sitting or carried the phone around with me all afternoon until it was done. I probably won't recommend it due to the language, but if pressed, I will. and I don't reread books often but i'm sure I will listen to this one again. it reminded me about how real life can be and how vital it is that we live the life we want.

Amazing

I can't say enough about how much I loved this book. Kelly Corrigan has an amazing gift for storytelling . Her narration of her own work was very well-done. I listened to this book, then started it again immediately and listened a second time. I laughed, cried, and was blown away by this book.

Kelly is a perfect mix of reality and humor

I read this book in February when it came out prior to seeing Kelly Corrigan on her book tour. I loved this book as I have loved all of her books. I decided to download it on audible as well since she narrates it. This is something I will listen to over and over again. Kelly's raw topics, reality and humor make her a wonderful author. You feel as though you know her through her writing. I have also gifted this book to no less than 7 people! This will be one for the ages.

Recommended reading for life

I heard about this book from the Modern Mrs. Darcy blog and immediately purchased it. I am so glad I did. Listening to Kelly Corrigan's perspective on learning hard life lessons we all eventually confront was moving. It made me think and evaluate different phases and choices in my life, and was encouraging in a surprising way. I thought her writing was fantastic and clearly artfully done. Have tissues handy, her performance of the book at places is heart-wrenching. I highly recommend this book (and have personally to two friends already!) to everyone.

I enjoyed the journey this story takes us on.

I love the narrator I also the author. Her voice made it more personal. The story about loss and living through it, about having that one person by your side telling you can recover from mistakes resonated with me. I loved the relationship she had with her father, where she talks about her father who loved her so much always believed in her .
