Audible Editor Reviews

Why we think it's Essential - Much has been written about Apple’s late CEO and co-founder Steve Jobs, but Walter Isaacson’s definitive bio is the only one authorized by Jobs himself. Based on interviews with Jobs and the people closest to him – including his wife and kids – this is an honest, revealing look at one of the greatest innovators of our time (and revolutionaries in the way we listen to books). — Diana M.

Publisher's Summary

Featuring a new epilogue read by the author.

From the author of the best-selling biographies of Benjamin Franklin and Albert Einstein, this is the exclusive biography of Steve Jobs.

Based on more than 40 interviews with Jobs conducted over two years - as well as interviews with more than a hundred family members, friends, adversaries, competitors, and colleagues - Walter Isaacson has written a riveting story of the roller-coaster life and searingly intense personality of a creative entrepreneur whose passion for perfection and ferocious drive revolutionized six industries: personal computers, animated movies, music, phones, tablet computing, and digital publishing.

At a time when America is seeking ways to sustain its innovative edge, and when societies around the world are trying to build digital-age economies, Jobs stands as the ultimate icon of inventiveness and applied imagination. He knew that the best way to create value in the 21st century was to connect creativity with technology. He built a company where leaps of the imagination were combined with remarkable feats of engineering.

Although Jobs cooperated with this book, he asked for no control over what was written. He put nothing off-limits. He encouraged the people he knew to speak honestly. And Jobs speaks candidly, sometimes brutally so, about the people he worked with and competed against. His friends, foes, and colleagues provide an unvarnished view of the passions, perfectionism, obsessions, artistry, devilry, and compulsion for control that shaped his approach to business and the innovative products that resulted.

Driven by demons, Jobs could drive those around him to fury and despair. But his personality and products were interrelated, just as Apple's hardware and software tended to be, as if part of an integrated system. His tale is instructive and cautionary, filled with lessons about innovation, character, leadership, and values.

"Wish I had read it a lot earlier."

Feels well researched and unbiased. Masterfully put together and ends in a beautiful way. Steve is likely to always be remembered as a polarizing figure. I remember feeling very connected to the story while listening to the chapter on the antenna gate issue because I had written a very angry email with data on Apple's goof-up to Steve back then and suggested bumpers as a solution. Never got a response but Steve did agree to accept returns or send free bumpers which I received. Also felt connected to it as an entrepreneur, and there's a lot to learn both positive and negative. Highly recommend it!

"Nice overview of a great mans life"

Loved to audiobook. It’s a little slow at first with the beginning of jobs life as they tell about his adoption and childhood but it depends what you are wanting to learn about him. It gave a very in depth view of his life and each stage of his creations and business adventures. Very long so just be aware but over all I would recommend

"If One Book in my life ... This is It"

This needs patience as build up is slow. Once company is started .... Its a roller coaster. Well written book. But Steve Job's story is so much like a movie. Really enjoyed going through the book. Best chapter for me:
    a. Pixar's success
    b. His come back
    c. Ipod and Itunes

    Highly recommend.

    "The best audible book!"

This is a very well written and very well narrated book. I never really knew much about Steve Jobs, all I know is that he was the CEO of Apple. listening to this book is like reliving the life of him with him. The narrator is really good. I cried at the end of the book. He best memoir I've ever listened to!

Truly awesome... It's like always having a great view of a beautiful mountain off in the distance... then someone offers to take you on a hike of that mountain... this book, is that hike through the beautiful mountain...

Even this book does not do Steve Jobs' life justice. A true legend in our time. Great book.

"An asshole but a great revolutionary entrepenuer."

This biography was very detailed. It covered all of Jobs's life aspects in a striking detail. The book keeps on focusing on a certain matter on his life and going all the way chronologically telling the evolution of this thing, then it goes back and mentions the other things happening at that time. This book was an enjoyable and hart warming experience.
