Publisher's Summary

Best-selling author and Grammy-winning musical superstar Naomi Judd shares her devastating personal story of depression to spread awareness and encourage others with the disease.

The world knows Naomi Judd as one of the most successful and best-loved country music stars ever. What the world hasn't known - until now - is that after her 2010 and 2011 North American tour with Wynonna, Naomi fell into a debilitating and terrifying depression that seemingly came out of nowhere. Just months after the successful tour ended, Naomi truly believed she had every reason to end her life. Facing severe depression, terrorizing panic attacks, PTSD, toxic drug poisoning, and addiction, she spent the next two and a half years in psychiatric hospitals, undergoing treatments and searching for answers. In River of Time, Naomi describes the agonizing toll this took on her and shares her message of hope after surviving the most painful period in her life.

"If I had known better, I woulda done better!! "

Listening to this book can be life changing.... understanding another persons pain and struggles has a way of making our own seem so small and in this case, kind of, "Why do I even bother worrying about these unimportant things when there people in the world that feel this badly??!!"
And as a Grandmother now with, like most of the world, access to a computer with all the information in the world in it, I find myself using Naomi's phrase," If I had known better, I woulda done better!" daily!!! Because online we have access to all this information about what is GOOD or BAD for us. Whether it be food or drink or medicine or just whatever!! .... and when I was raising my 3 wonderful children I didn't!!
I look back on what I thought then was "GOOD" food to nourish their little bodies and from the information we now have access to, it is an absolute wonder they are still alive or at least not riddled with some horrible diseases!!! The horrific chemicals that are in the foods we buy are just SHOCKING!! But that's another book... 😉
I love The Judds and pray Naomi keeps finding better things to help her with her terribly difficult journey thru this life!
This book is an absolute blessing that you should not miss!! It's beautifully written and READ!!

"Lots of useful information about mental illness."
What made the experience of listening to River of Time the most enjoyable?

I found the book gave a lot of info about mental health issues, treatments and what is going on inside a person suffering this way.

What other book might you compare River of Time to and why?

Prozac Nation was perhaps a story about a younger person's struggle with depression whereas this book was written from an older person's perspective and gave more useful treatment info than salacious or libidinous stories like the aforementioned autobiography. I think some books just lay out the personal story and feelings but not necessarily what to try and what to do to try to feel better.this book was both personal and informative.

Which character – as performed by Naomi Judd and Carolyn Cook – was your favorite?

I liked Naomi, thought her husband seemed like a gem for standing by and helping her as would any good, Christian man (or so I'd like to believe!) and I also really like her daughter, Ashley. She's very smart and is a serious humanitarian who aids others and champions important causes without all the publicity that other celebrities receive.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It was hard to read at times since I suffer from depression too but I'm glad I stuck with it!

    "Loved it."

I really believe that she wants to help other people. It seems like she's been through a lot of heartaches but she's stronger than ever.

    "Horrible Book"

I really wanted to like this book, because I have seen Naomi on interviews and thought she was interesting. This book is depressing. She is so bitter to so many people, complaining and giving far to many of her political rants. I bought this book to find a place to find a peace and maybe even a few answers. Her whining and rants were just to much. . .I would totally return it but it says I can not. Hated this book. Tried so hard to like it

"To sad, to finish. Stopping, to move on."

I'm on the 6th chapter, don't want to finish. To depressing. As much as I appreciate her candid thoughts, it's to much. I hope she overcomes. I need to move forward.
