Publisher's Summary

Without her alter-ego Erika Jayne, Erika Girardi says she'd just be "another rich bitch with a plane" - so get ready for the dishy, tell-all memoir from show-stopping performer, model, singer, and beloved star of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Erika Jayne.

Erika Jayne didn't make it this far by holding back. Now, in her first-ever memoir, the fan favorite star of Bravo's The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills bares her heart, mind, and soul.

In Pretty Mess, Erika spills on every aspect of her life: from her rise to fame as a daring and fiery pop/dance performer and singer; to her decision to accept a role on reality television; to the ups and downs of family life (including her marriage to famed lawyer Tom Girardi, 33 years her senior). There's much more to Erika Jayne than fans see on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Pretty Mess is her opportunity to dig deep and tell her many-layered, unique, and inspiring life story.

As fun and fearless as its author, this fascinating memoir proves once and for all why Erika Jayne is so beloved: she's strong, confident, genuine, and here to tell all!

I wanted to like this so bad.

I really like watching Erika. I love her music. This book was horrible. It was boring and self-indulgent. The first chapter reads like the filmography section on a stars Wikipedia page. The second chapter is a painful list of all the ways her mother wronged her. A little hypocritical because we find out in later chapters that she leaves her own son to be cared for by the same woman(and others) while she moved solo to LA. The book never picks up speed it just kind of slowly drags on until the final chapter. There are no interesting real housewives stories and very few personal story’s. It was basically a 5 hour long justification of how she really is a performer not just a rich bored wife. Message received!

I expected more

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

This book was ok. I guess i just expected a more over the top story.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

I enjoyed Erika as the narrator.

She got the title right... Pretty Mess....

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

From the the first chapter I knew this was a mistake buying it. but I had to force myself to listen to the entireity because I wanted to get my monies worth. She talked fast and if you slowed it down she sounded drunk. So either way it was difficult.

Would you ever listen to anything by Erika Jayne again?

um... no...

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Erika Jayne?

no one, the book was about the most self absorbed person on the planet. First poor poor Erika, her life her mother her father her this her that. Second it became rich rich Erika, her husband, her plane, her clothes, her this her that.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

disappointment. I used to like her now after reading her book, not so much anymore. she was flip flopping from calling her mother Rene then calling her her mother, and she did the same with her grandmother. it was confusing and disrespectful. At least her mother was there thru her whole life as Erica disses her through out the whole book. um...as her son "choose" to be in NY at age 6 with his father. Who at age 6 knows whats best? And he didn't want to be with his mother? What son doesn't want to be with their mother? Oh, yes, her son. By the end of the book, I realize why. She has no time but for herself.
I found myself out loud talking between her lines. the real truth to almost every sentence. She is obviously trying to convince herself otherwise by writing this book.
I felt sorry for her "Rene" her mother, how embarrassing for her. I hope Rene didn't read this book.

Any additional comments?

wish I hadn't read it. I look at her differently now. super snob housewife.

Excellent!!!

It was amazingly like sitting w/u at lunch just listening, laughing along w/very touching personal moments of her life! I connect with it personally & her journey on many levels. Erika in my opinion, its for the most part has been misunderstood on the Housewives of Beverly Hill’s show. After reading you will see she is a very special lady that we all can learn from in many ways.

i love erika jane but you expect more crazy

it's crazy to think that is she is a lot just like a normal person if you took away all the money that she had. But I expected more crazy stories it was a lot slower than most books but I still love her and admire her for doing it

I love who you are. I can't wait until your next book. I know what I and millions of others would like it should be based on. I wish I could tell you what would help and move so many others coming from you.
