Publisher's summary

The career of Stefanie Powers is one of so many stage, screen, and television credits that her name alone recalls memories as varied as her roles-on screen and off. From movie roles including John Wayne's daughter in McLintock! and Lana Turner's rival in Love Has Many Faces, to being terrorized by Tallulah Bankhead in Die, Die My Darling and befriending a Volkswagen in Herbie Rides Again, she stepped onto the television screen as the sexy secret agent April Dancer in The Girl from U.N.C.L.E. and the jet-setting, crime-solving wife of Robert Wagner in Hart to Hart.

She is also an award-winning stage actress, fitness advocate, and an internationally recognized animal conservationist.

A natural beauty groomed for show business at an early age, Stefanie Powers began her career at the tail end of the Studio System, a dynamic education in star quality and Hollywood history she happily admits was, "one hell of a ride." Privileged to have worked with some of the greatest names in the Hollywood firmament, Stephanie tells of the time she broke down in tears at a party over her divorce from actor Gary Lockwood, only to be comforted with a cocktail and the hard-won, been-there advice from two guests she had never met: Elizabeth Taylor and Ava Gardner.

This is One from the Hart, Stefanie Powers's story of a resourceful, empowered, and atypical celebrity life, told with all the candor, wit, and wisdom that have come to embody the woman herself.

Outstanding

I have been a fan since junior high school when I first saw Stefanie Powers in Hart To Hart and have loved and admired her unending work both professionally and privately with the WHWF. I found it so endearing that she narrated the audiobook as it made me feel as if she was speaking directly to me. What a classy lady!

Such a touching book about a wonderful actress.

I loved this book and it was even better since it was narrated by Stefanie Powers...I had read the book but got more out of listening to it. You won't be disappointed.

Absolutely Wonderful!

I have been a Stefanie Powers super fan since I fell in love with Hart to Hart as a tween. I own and have read One From the Hart and when I saw that Stefanie Powers narrated the audio version I knew I had to have it as well - and I was blown away. I cried, I laughed and I have found a whole new level of respect, love and gratitude for her.
My family had always joked with me when i was a young teen how I want to be Stefanie when I grew up...I honestly can say that if I could just be a little like her I would have a life well lived.
She has always been my idol and listening to her story told by her has only solidified that even more.
I know I will be listening to this one numerous times!

Quite an Interesting Life

I enjoyed listening to this audiobook but would have liked more of Stephanie's story and a little less of William Holden (even though he was apparently "the love of her life"). The many stories of famous stars, producers, and directors was fascinating to me and the wonderful relationship between Stephanie and her Mother was so very heartwarming. Ms. Power's narration was just perfect.

Audiobook was provided for an honest review.

Great audio performance, spotty story though . . .

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Stefanie's diction and performance of the book are excellent

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

I would have liked a more conventional (timeline-wise) recounting of her life experience. The book jumped around a lot (both in dates and subjects). However, listening to her speak made it all worthwhile

Which character – as performed by Stefanie Powers – was your favorite?

Anything with an accent

Do you think One from the Hart needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Nope, fine as is

Wholesome to worldly, such a life!

Here is a woman to admire: a natural intellectual, a musically talented actor (should've gotten better roles) a remarkable athlete and a master of 7 languages. She was faithful to her mother, her Polish heritage, friends of all strata, her lovers, her support team, and the causes she dedicated herself to. She traveled to learn, in the deepest sense and became very sophisticated. Yet she is funny, positive, warm-- and a wonderful narrator.

Though I'm guessing mostly women will read this, many men will enjoy it too.
For William Holden fans, you'll gain more understanding and respect for him in this book. He really met his match with Ms. Powers and you'll see how extraordinary their life was together.

Regards to 'name-dropping' comments by other reviewers, I'm guessing this was her way of including and thanking people, while not wanting to indicate favorites. I appreciated the use of 'my good friend ______' whether referring to a movie star or a bookkeeper. I do think readers familiar with 1940s-1990s films and some knowledge of SoCal, NYC & London areas may have a slightly easier read, but not by much.

There is plenty of wise reflection and humor in the book, much of it on herself, but she never stoops to petty gossip.
At times it seems as if small chunks of the book were taken out? - but most of it flows beautifully. Her charming mother is a joy to hear about and at the end it's a hard loss, including for the reader.
I usually read nonfiction history and this is my first 'Hollywood star' autobiography. It was a great listen and I was very sorry when it ended.

Simply The Best

This audible rendition of Ms. Powers book was incredible! I am somewhat biased as a member of her fan club, but listening to her read her memoir in that velvety voice was such a treat. The stories about her, her family, life adventures, travels, friends and relationships, Hollywood tidbits and personal insights was made extra special to hear her voice inflections as she touched on humor and sadness in her life. I will be starting over to hear her reading of this fascinating book again tomorrow!

WOW what a great book.

This was such a great book, what a sophisticated and lovely woman. Her narration was so clear and enjoyable. I found her story, as told by her, to be so interesting.

Truth be told I don't read or listen to books like this. I enjoy historical fiction. Pretty much anything with medieval guys and swords. This could not be further from my type.
However, I recently watched a few old episodes of Hart to Hart on Amazon Prime. I would sometimes watch this show with my mother when I was in Junior High. Back then you watched what was on or you didn't. There are a few shows I can remember watching and so many other shows from back then that I just never watched. For some reason I decided to give this book a try.

I was so pleasantly surprised. I would really recommend this book especially for anyone born in the 1960s.
