Publisher's summary

The moment Diane Burke, an author and mother of two grown sons, received an unexpected certified letter in the mail, she had no idea her life would be shaken to its core. Memories of a past she had buried more than forty years ago suddenly resurfaced and she wasn't prepared to deal with them.

Steve Orlandi, happily married, father of two and step-father of three, was living the typical middle class American life. But since the age of eight, when he discovered he was adopted, he had led that life dealing with inner questions about his self-identity and genetic history. Always on his mind was one simple, yet complicated and loaded question: Who am I?

In One Perfect Day, Diane shares with readers how she came to the heartbreaking conclusion to give her baby up for adoption and how this decision has affected her life sense. Through Steve's invaluable perspective, readers will also experience the lengths he traveled to discover his mother's identity and reach out to her, not knowing whether she'd want to meet with him after nearly four decades of separation. It all comes together on one perfect day.

This book asks and answers the questions: What defines family? What does it mean to forgive? And is it worth the time, energy, and emotional cost to love a stranger?

Robotic Narrator

I enjoyed the story. It may be me but I felt the narrator sounded robotic at times.

I almost didn't read this one, but I am glad I did

This book held my attention well. There are human struggles that we all go through. I found wisdom in the honesty on the pages. .

A remarkable story.

I found tears running down my cheeks at times, realizing I had made the best choice fifty years ago. Had not really been thinking of that time in my life so long ago.

Adoption Reunion Story wit Happy Ending

The story is well explained and has a happy ending despite struggles. The authors take on being suicidal could be disturbing, though. Her view on it being selfish I did not appreciate since it is much more complicated than she presents. Otherwise it’s a good story. It does have a Christian perspective with many references to God for those who might be sensitive to such.

Agenda much?

I'm adopted and found my biological family so I like reading books like this, and I tried to ignore the religious stuff in this one, but I finally gave up and quit listening once the story became a moral lesson and the author went on and on with superstitious nonsense. Regarding the writing itself, it's hard to believe she is a professional writer. I'm glad her search had a happy ending though.

Understanding the effects of adoption

Well written story of how adoption affects the child, the mom that is giving up and the parents that are receiving as well as a host of other people. Not every adoption runs this same story. For the reader this mom chose to open her heart and mind to help us who have not had go through this understand adoption from many different points of view.

Yearning

This book tells the story of a young girl that gets pregnant and must give up her 1st born, a son, for adoption. She holds him in the hospital and then is forced by her mother, to give him up. Almost 40 yrs. later, and after 3 marriages or more and other children, her son hires someone to find his birth mom. She is very receptive to the invitation to meet with him. She and his new family bond together. Their is a hint of mixed emotions as the adopted mom shares moments and milestones of the sons’ life. The book reminds you that if you love someone you set them free and if it’s yours it will return. A good read.
