An incredible recording of Joan Crawford reading her book, My Way of Life. Originally recorded in 1973, it was recently remastered from the original LP records. Hear the unabridged edition performed by the one and only Joan Crawford.

From Grand Hotel to What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?, Joan Crawford played some of the finest parts Hollywood had to offer, establishing a reputation as the most spectacular diva on the silver screen. Even when the cameras quit rolling, her life never stopped being over-the-top. In My Way of Life, a cult classic that was first published in 1971, Crawford shares her secrets.

Part memoir, part self-help book, part guide to being fabulous, My Way of Life advises the listener on everything from throwing a small dinner party for 18 to traveling abroad to getting the most out of a marriage. Featuring tips on fashion, makeup, etiquette, and everything in between, it is an irresistible look at an era when movie stars were pure class, and Crawford was at the top of the heap.

Very interesting

It is very interesting to hear Joan's voice read her book. I respect her overall life philosophy. However, she doesn't get beyond superficial viewpoints and her instructions on entertaining and such are quite extensive, to the point of boredom. She shares nothing much of her past movie career, talks a lot about her last husband, Pepsi, and eating habits, exercise, beauty regimen, etc. Even so, it was a fun listen.

This is pure Joan Crawford!!!!!

I love this book!!! Mostly for the fact that I can hear Joan Crawford's voice! It takes me back to my childhood, when we lived in the same building. She really was a very wonderful lady!!!!! You have to listen to this book....it will take you back !

Her way

I loved that Joan Crawford herself read this book. At times you could hear her turning pages, or traffic noises outside. I won't say that I agree with her way of life, but I did find it very interesting. If you are a fan of this amazing lady, you will want to listen to this book in her voice and in her own words.

What An Amazing Woman!

I adore Ms.Crawford even more after this book! There’s SOOO MUCH MORE to this woman then how the movie “mommy dearest” portrayed her, she was such a PASSIONATE , determined , driven , hard working woman and most of all she did it all with such a CLASS & etiquette !!!
It’s no secret she is and was a bit of “controversial actress”
There’s soo much more to her then perceived , her narrating this book made my enjoyment of this book even more intriguing!!! ❤️

So fun!

This was a great find! I love that it's narrated by Joan herself. It really shows how polished she was, though a tad over-the-top.
The book is really a "how-to" for being a girl/a wife/or feminine in general. A lot of tips and tricks you may not think of and details that may have been overlooked. Example, what to do and what not to do at a dinner party.
Though there are a lot of pointers in this book that are out-of-date, it's still fun to listen to just for knowledge of the era. (Like, who even makes aspic's anymore???).
This is a quick listen and just fun all the way.

An icon with a touch of eccentricity

You can become an icon without having an icon’s demands, traits, and standers. Though, in the case of the late, but ever lovely, Joan Crawford, she took it to the fanatical extreme without a hint of subtlety; no sir, she took it to the wildest ends the way she widens her eyes to the camera. Her charisma is unquestionable, her delivery is pure Prima Donna, and you can tell she enjoys every part of it.

This was great! Hearing Joan read her own book!

A lot of fun if you're a fan of Joan Crawford. You can tell it's a rather relaxed reading, probably in one of the rooms in her own home (you can hear car horns outside on occasion.) The recording comes from the original vinyl which also makes it more fun and feel authentic. She has what I would call her usual condescending opinions of just about everything. Sometimes she can sound almost loving, but mostly you can hear contempt in her voice. And no complaints here, that makes for a fun listen. I will actually listen to it again sometime. All that said, it's fascinating to hear because of the time and how life was when the recording was made and the book was written. Nothing too deep here, so if you're looking for a fun, short listen, try this out!

Eager

I was eager to read this book when I discovered it existed and found it on here. I began listening, and to my excitement, I realized it was Joan herself is the narrator. Joan did a terrific job. 500 Stars
