Editorial reviews

In My Journey with Farrah, author Alanna Stewart, longtime confidante of famed actress Farrah Fawcett, reminisces about their friendship - which spanned decades - and about the three years before Fawcett passed away, during which the two women developed an even more unbreakable bond as they sought, together, to achieve the unthinkable: cheating death.

Voice actor Deanna Hurst’s performance of this deeply affecting memoir is subtle and moving; her soft voice easily communicates the depth of Stewart’s joy, grief, courage, and determination throughout her travels with Fawcett, and through Fawcett’s final years. Hurst is an even and unhurried narrator who nevertheless imbues her performance with an unmistakable empathy, inviting the listener into this audiobook to share in Stewart’s emotional story.

Publisher's summary

Alana Stewart and Farrah Fawcett went through it all together. Friends for 30 years, they were an essential part of each other's lives since first meeting at a dinner party in the 1970s. During that time, they supported each other through the trials of Hollywood life while also raising their families, keeping in close contact. But in the fall of 2006, a test of their friendship arose unlike any other they'd faced: Farrah was diagnosed with aggressive rectal cancer. She was determined to fight, and Alana was determined to help her.

Together, they were relentless in their pursuit of a cure, traveling halfway around the world as they sought every mainstream, alternative, and experimental therapy available. In all, they spent the better part of the next three years together - Alana by her friend's side as they struggled hand in hand with the unknown. Now, in these intimate and personal diaries, Alana shares her thoughts on the events of the last three years, documenting the journey she and Farrah embarked on as they prayed for a miracle. Reflecting back on the three decades they shared, Alana details what she's learned about her friend and herself as they battled through the trials of this illness. From the importance of selflessness, to the undeniable value of faith, to the remarkable resilience of the human spirit, Alana's day-to-day entries reveal a side of these two friends that the world has never seen. Even in the face of this debilitating disease, Farrah's courage and determination continues to teach us about life . . . and love. Writing candidly about aging, marriage, motherhood, and faith - all topics she and Farrah dealt with together over the years - Alana provides a moving tribute to a woman, once Hollywood's golden girl, and an inspiring celebration of life.

My Journey with Farrah is the story of two courageous women who stood by each other through good times, bad times, and now the most trying of times. It is a book that will make people la...

Such a sad and terrifying time for them. Farrah was so strong and an incredible person to share her journey. Alana is a wonderful friend to have stayed with her. I recommend this to everyone.

Inspiring and Compelling

From start to finish is audiobook was so interesting, uplifting, and life affirming despite the obviously sad narrative. Alana did a great job balancing the storyline to include the fun and heartbreaking stories of both Farrah's life and her own. Check it out.

Farrah

I enjoyed reading the book about Farrah Fawcett. I thought it was well written, beautifully read and touching. However I did come across with an upsetting feeling about Alana popping Ativans. Is everyone in Hollywood on some sort of medication? I just think that Ativan must be passed out in Hollywood like candy on Halloween. We all go through tough daily struggles without popping Ativans. This book although it moved me deeply about the struggles and hardship that Farrah endured during her ordeal with cancer and the committment of her friend to stay by her side as a support also left me wondering about some other things....All in all I liked the book and would recommend readers reading the book.

Sorry that I spent time with this book

I should have paid more attention to the critical reviews, but I took a chance. Suffice it to say, this was a shallow read, and certainly missed the point of the actual courage, bravery, and strength of Farrah Fawcett during her journey with cancer. This story, as the title clearly states, is not about that. It's about her friend's version which, with all due respect to the work she does now for the Foundation, is not a story that has any relevance to the fight against cancer. Even as a caregiver myself, it just didn't resonate.
