Publisher's summary

A sickly and awkward boy who turned into a country music legend, Hiram Williams had reinvented himself as Hank Williams and taken to alcohol by the age of 14. He was dead by the age of 29. Here, Paul Hemphill recounts the tortured life and whirlwind career of the hillbilly Shakespeare as only a fellow Southerner can.

Beautifully Written

Could not stop listening. Never heard a Song by Hank Williams I didn't like. This Book was written very well, and every song Hank Williams wrote was a Golden Jewel. I'm so grateful he was able to write and sang so many beautiful songs. He is one Muscian that has never left my mind ,and never will. When I'm having a hard time in life I just listen to several doses of his music, and it heals my own pain.

Great story and superb narration

The best book by far on Hank Williams. Gives great detail of the life of Hank Williams, without going into the minutia that ruins so many biographies.
