Publisher's Summary

Hello there. Welcome to my autobiography.

Throughout this audiobook I talk about my life and work, including Little Britain, Come Fly with Me, Bridesmaids, Les Miserables, Alice in Wonderland and, of course, Shooting Stars. The thing is, this is a bit different to most memoirs you may have listened to, because it comes in the form of an A-Z. For instance, B is for Baldy! Which is what people used to shout at me in the playground (not much fun). G is for Gay (because I'm an actual real-life gay), and T is for the TARDIS (because I'm a companion in Doctor Who now). You get the sort of thing.

Anyway, I hope you buy it at least twice. Thank you.

This Audible Exclusive features a song, performed by Matt Lucas, with full musical backing.

Critic Reviews

"One of the biggest and most talented comedy stars that the UK has ever presented." (Peter Capaldi)
"Matt is not only hilarious and kind, he's probably the most generous person I know. All of which is wonderfully evident in this book." (Rebel Wilson)
"To be truly unique in this world is almost impossible to achieve; this book is about someone who achieved it. Raw, honest, funny and moving." (James Corden)

Delightful.

Matt gives an enchanting peek inside his wild ride of a life. I didn't know exactly who he was when I began, I had only seen the Q2 Les Miz on PBS. I wondered why would he write a memoir? I am glad that I took a chance on it. It is full of interesting antidotes from a life in comedy, the theatre and many notes from just living. It is very enjoyable and I highly recommend it.

Sadly Dissapointing

I love Matt Lucas and still do but just did not get this book. There was one really funny and entertaining chapter on his relationship with food but that was really it for humor. I'm fine with a good biography and the lack of comedy in itself was understandable in some ways, but overall the book was a narrative timeline of his career. This happened and then that happened. We met this person then that person and so on and so on all the way to the end.

Meh

Well, I am a huge fan of Little Britain but this memoir left me.....wanting. Not as entertaining as I would expect - a lot of it was just downright mundane. I don’t know if my expectations were too high, but I could have passed. Seems as if it didn’t come out of a full life but rather a deal with Audible solely for the purpose of making cash. While I can respect that, it doesn’t make for a compelling listen.

If you are a huge fan AND have nothing else to spend your credit on then maybe, but come to think of it if I hadn’t listened to this there would still be some mystery for me and I would have continued to idolized him. Now I no longer do.

I think John Cleese did a better job on his memoir - beautifully written and entertaining. Sorry Matt :(

Fascinating insight into the author’s life

I love listening to authors read their own books and Matt Lucas brings the book alive by his narration. It’s like sitting across the table while he recounts his life story so far. All that is missing is some chocolate and other tasty snacks! (If you listen to the book you’ll understand.)

I knew very little about him or what he has done including his most famous work. But I loved hearing about how he came to be where he is with his life and the people with whom he has worked or been connected. It certainly revealed that he is not simply a funny man, but someone who works hard at what he does and was clearly destined to be a very popular and funny man.

His frank explanation of some of his personal life is both revealing and informative. I hope he has simply reached a pause in his life and not a professional full stop. He explains that what we see and take for granted when comedic actors perform is soundly based in hard work and talent.

A very enjoyable read and like all good books one that left me a little sadder for having reached the end knowing I won’t be having my private (albeit one-sided) conversation with Matt anymore.

I heard Matt talking about his book on the radio!

After listening to Dr Lucas, talk about his book on Radio 5 Live I was hooked.

To be honest this book didn’t disappoint, for his frank honesty, pure witt and sense of fun you can’t fault it. Although, I have no interest in performing as a stand up or any acting aspirations beyond being John Snow; I whole heartedly recommend this book to those of that ilk for a honest account.

On a personal note, well done Matt great job. I hope you find what you’re looking for!

Engaging, honest and very entertaining

An insightful journey through Matt’s career to date spanning tough early stand-up gigs to the heights of Hollywood - and everything in between. You’d be expecting a knockout narration by the man himself and that’s exactly what you get from one of the best loved and talented comedians of his generation. Well worth a listen - An Audible book where you’ll spend a few extra minutes in the car park to finish the chapter.

Liked the first half, not so much the second

I found Matt a bit boastful about his achievements and would have liked to have heard more funny stories and anecdotes as opposed to I did this and I did that, then I met this person etc

A bit boring

I was looking forward to listening to this book but was disappointed that Matt kept on about his gayness.

Honest

Narrated by Matt the book was engaging from the start. It made a refreshing change to have each chapter encompassed under a sub heading, smoothly moving in out and out of different years throughout Matts life It gave the reader a small insight into his Career so far, his personal life and his inner mind. All told with splatters of humour, honesty and heart touching poignancy.
