Publisher's summary

An American physician in rural Afghanistan faces the unimaginable.

Dilip Joseph dreams of life as a medical humanitarian. In 2009 his dream comes true as he joins the staff of Colorado-based Morning Star Development, a nonprofit community and economic development organization. On December 5, 2012, Dr. Joseph and two native colleagues, en route from a medical clinic in an Afghan village to Kabul, find themselves face-to-face with four men carrying AK-47s. Forced at gunpoint into the back of a truck and driven to a remote location, the men are sure they are headed to their execution.

Kidnapped by the Taliban is the dramatic account of Dilip Joseph's terrifying journey. He rides a roller-coaster of emotions wondering if he will ever see his family again. Listeners will marvel at Dilip's surprising bond with one of his captors. After four days of uncertainty, gunfire announces the arrival of Navy SEAL Team Six, the elite group of soldiers that took down al-Qaeda founder Osama bin Laden. SEAL team member Nicolas D. Checque loses his life in the rescue, as do the Taliban kidnappers.

Though processing the ordeal is a lifetime pursuit, Dilip unexpectedly finds it gives him new reasons to hope. His experience reveals to him and the listener that even the Taliban, a society that so many dismiss as pure evil, includes real human beings in search of a better, more peaceful life. And in that lives hope for us all.

In Awe.

Honest and heartfelt. Not political but made clear the struggle in Afghanistan.
The author reminds us of the humanity of us all and we all are in God's hands.

Great story that people should read/hear

At some point one must realize that their altruistic actions are just selfish and put others in grave danger.

Glad I listened to and experienced this account

What did you love best about Kidnapped by the Taliban?

Hearing what a kidnapped individual experienced in a very tense and dangerous situation of being kidnapped in Afghanistan.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Kidnapped by the Taliban?

Someone trying to help the people of Afghanistan and being a target of extremist is just so hard to understand as their way of thinking is SO different and goes against my beliefs.

What does Vikas Adam bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Vikas did a great job with his inflections, tone and emotions of the moments in helping the reader envelope in the story.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, not really. However, it was very enjoyable.

Inspired!! Challenged! Encouraged. Pushed!

Words cannot begin to express how inspired I am after reading this story that is full of Compassion faith trust humanity and hope. It really is a story full of hope. It pushes me to put myself in someone else's shoes instead of judging them. It challenges me to love without license. It encourages me that no matter how bleak our circumstances God can use our circumstances for his glory. It dears to ask me the question, "what are people reading on the pages of my life?" Thank you Dr. Jozsef for beautifully and politically and honestly sharing your story and journey with us and inspiring us at each twist and turn of your experience.
