At the height of the Battle of Iwo Jima, during a U.S. assault on a vital airfield on the day after the island invasion began, Jack Lucas and three other Marines were attacking a Japanese pillbox when two enemy grenades landed in their midst. Private Lucas jumped on both of them, driving them into the volcanic ash. Then they exploded. Thus did a 17-year-old from North Carolina become the youngest soldier in the twentieth century, and the youngest Marine in history, to receive the Congressional Medal of Honor.
Today, when Jack Lucas speaks, crowds gather to honor him and pay tribute to Marine heritage and pride. Mr. Lucas is as close a thing to a rock star as our World War II generation has.
"His re-creation of his part in the battle of Iwo Jima is the highlight of the book." (Publishers Weekly)
Poorly written with very little space devoted to the writer's battlefield experiences. The book is esentially a story of his boyhood experiences with boilerplate writing of the main battle which has been in the public domain for decades.

I think this is a vary well written book. After listening to this it gave me much greater respect for everyone who fought and died during WW2. Before i discovered this book I was already thinking about joining the navel special forces but after listening to Indestructible I am more determined to join than ever.
When a child learns to read they should be required to read this. As should people who want to become a citizen of this great nation.
Fantastic book very well written and very riveting !! The book flows very well and keeps you excited. Story of the US Marines on IwoJima and more then that it is the story of a real hero on IwoJima and after.. . Highly recommend !!!
Time and time again faced with dangers that would seem lethal to a person, Jack somehow survives and rebuilds his life again.
Loved reading about the life of this hero Jack Lucas. I could not put this book down, having met Jack this book had more meaning for me. Rest in peace Jack, you will always be in my thoughts, Semper Fi.
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
This book is named similar to Unbroken. A total rip off of that book that was a best seller. I mistakenly purchased this crappy book thinking I was buying the other one. This book is poorly written, poorly narrated, and is a crummy book altogether. Do not waste your money and don't support a sham like this.
What could Jack Lucas and D.K. Drum have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
This book sucks!
How did the narrator detract from the book?
