Publisher's Summary

A hilarious and emotional personal account of the life, times, mistakes, and crippling codependence of comedian, producer, director, actress, and writer Whitney Cummings.

After getting her start as a stand-up comic and then breaking out with the wildly successful CBS sitcom 2 Broke Girls (she's the cocreator, writer, and executive producer), Whitney Cummings has seen a few things and is turning to the written word to tell us all the stuff she's too scared to say onstage.

Full of intellect, pathos, and profundity, I'm Fine...and Other Lies is, in Whitney's words, her first book, which means her last date. With her signature incendiary edge and self-deprecation, Whitney comes clean about what has shaped her into the trailblazing comic that she is today. She recounts her struggles with codependence, love addiction, workaholism, eating disorders, and vagina steaming. This intimate, no-holds-barred look at Whitney's mistakes and subsequent life lessons makes for juicy schadenfreude, no doubt. However, it's also an astute, poignant, and, most importantly, honest tale of what it means to live in today's world and Twittersphere, with all the insecurities and anxieties that come with that territory. That said, at end of the day, no matter her situation, she's fine. And other lies.

    "Rollercoaster of emotions!"

There were many personally relatable moments in this book for me. Even if you are not a total wreck like Whitney and I, you will be able to laugh and cry with her as she spills her most embarrassing and emotionally low points of her life. highly entertaining and awakening!

"The Audiobook was the best version..."

Been anticipating this book and it was more relatable, more unfiltered and more deep than I actually thought it would be. Chapter 9 at the end was the most impactful and such a real thing, thank you Whitney for the insight into you and your life. You’re truly one amazing woman, one of the few people I look up to and happy you are just you, being you! JRyanNYC on Twitter hehe

We all have great stories to tell, and this book is one of those great stories. I also learned what a codependent is, definitely interesting. Awesome book!

This is very entertaining but at the same time she makes herself vulnerable. Thank you Whitney!

    "Love love love"

I loved this book. I don’t finish books, even audio books. I finished this in a few days. I’m so glad that Whitney read it herself. It was so much better that way. She was real and raw and cried and laughed and chimed in with little side notes (very sparingly). Don’t expect a silly memoir with anecdotal stories like most books from comedians (which I love as well). This is more of a road map of how she figured her head stuff out and how she’s still putting in the work, written for other people who have or want to understand those with mental health issues (codependency, anxiety, eating disorders, broken family, etc). Loved it!

    "A Must-Read for Codependency Sufferers"

One of the most insightful books about codependence, neglect, and self-help that I've read in a long time. I never imaged looking at her (yeah, judging a book by its cover) that Whit endured so many situational things that I am embarrassed to admit, I can totally relate to.

Ex, being conditioned to normalize whatever painful dysfunction happened to me while taking care of relatives with abusive, selfish tendencies.

Certainly NOT what I expected at first blush when I glanced at the cover. I've always been something of a fan of Whitney's humor, but I never expected her to scribe a memoir. I purchased it on a whim thinking it would just be some silly regurgitations of her stand up. Nope. Sure there was humor, but sprinkles of it atop a more serious and important topic. Once I got into it, I was completely thrown by how much I was able to relate to her experiences as well as the behaviors, coping mechanisms, and mindset she'd develop to deal with her mental health issues. Wow. One of my favorite books hands down and certainly something I recommend as a must-read to anyone suffering from or have had low self-esteem, co-dependency (more specifically caretaker co-dependence), neglect, abusive relationships, etc.

I was also pleased that Whitney narrated the book and that she shared examples of how she managed to gain some healthy perspective on her life.

"Damn it, my hopes were crashed."

Side Note: Don’t do it, just walk away or finger over to another book. If you want to hear about the same shit everyone else deals with in their lives but with a couple of chuckles here and there, save yourself the 7+ hours and just call a friend to reminisce on some crap you have done or dealt with.

    Sorry Whitney, just not good.
