Publisher's Summary

Among our greatest fears is the dread of what others would think of us "if they only knew" - the parts of our past we hope to forget, the parts of our present we work to conceal. Yet the part we actually do the best job of hiding is not the unsightly debris of our own mess, but rather the stunning beauty of God's grace. The fear that demands we protect this false image at all costs leads us to unwittingly declare a false gospel at every turn.

Jamie Ivey finally grew tired of doing that, tired of being too ashamed and insecure to let others see the full extent of what God was capable of doing with our unworthiness. So she quit hiding. She let him get praise for what she'd been pretending she didn't need.

What she found as a result is how a willingness to just open up and say the stuff that most people refuse to reveal about themselves gives others permission to join us in our transparency. And how the process of becoming real ignites an ongoing passion in us for living out our ongoing redemption, enabling us to more fully embrace not only our relationship with him but also with one another.

If You Only Knew is the utterly inviting, often humorous, incredibly authentic back-story of one woman's life, told for the purpose of helping you strip away both the inner and outward hypocrisy that cripples Christian freedom, choosing instead to live with courageous confidence in God's ability to make you truly one person. His.

Stories DO Change the World

This book, along with Jamie Ivey's weekly podcast, really has changed my world and changed my perspective. Instead of holding on to my story out of fear, I'm sharing it so that through my vulnerability others can know the redemption and freedom I've known. And I experience more freedom as I share my story. Crazy! By letting go of the very story I've protected, I get even more beauty and freedom in Christ... and deeper friendships. Of course I've recommended it and forwarded it to others.

This book will be on my nightstand, like forever

This book touched my soul with real spiritual truths from a real momma. So, so loved the transparency Jamie so willing laid out there for all of us to see and bathe in. She so beautifully teaches of God’s love and redemptive work to all who are willing to approach His mighty throne of grace. Jamie’s the kind of woman we all need as a best friend. I can see this book filled with so many highlighted sentences, paragraphs, pages sitting on my nightstand forever. After a long day it will be one thing I turn to to remember who I am. Such a sweet, sweet gift from above.

Permission to speak freely

This book is for every woman! (Men too lol). It gives you permission or reminds you that freedom is available if we decide to walk into it. We need to remove the weight of shame and guilt and deposit it at Jesus’ feet. God is good and this book is a refreshing way to release all the good, bad and ugly onto Jesus. Jamie is brave and a trailblazer in sharing her freedom story. Thank you! It is a must!

An Authentic Invitation to Shed Shame and to Truly Embrace Freedom

This book is a powerful, straight forward listen. Jamie risks meaningful vulnerability to draw the reader back to the truly radical love and forgiveness that is Jesus. I highly recommend this book for new Christians, and other Christians who struggle with being judgmental.

Love!!

I loved this book and how real and authentic Jamie presents her story of coming to know and love Jesus. It’s relatable and made me feel less alone in this world of sin struggles. It’s nice knowing that despite our past we can always choose a better future. It’s also great knowing other women deal with the same struggles. The narration was great (love when authors narrate their own books)!

A honest look of how God redeemed one woman

I’ve been a long time follower of Jamie Ivey, because her husband was a worship leader at a summer camp I was a counselor at. I learned at that time that him and his wife were waiting to bring their two kids home from Haiti that summer. So I immediately went to find and follow him and his wife when I got home so I could keep up on when their kids got to come home. Through Twitter and Facebook and later on Instagram I learned of Jamie’s Podcast and then that led me to this book. I learned so much more about this lady that God is using to let woman know we are so loved by Jesus. How He longs to love us, despite our faults, our shortcomings and mess ups. And best of all...that we are so worthy of being loved this way!! Give this book a listen!! I LOVED hearing it be read to me by Jamie herself! It made me feel like I got to have a personal conversation with her!

We need more of this!

I’ve never written a book review but had to for this one. I so appreciate Jamie’s honesty, transparency, encouragement and wisdom. I’ve been a Christian for many years but there are still certain sins I struggle with and carry a lot of shame for. God has spoken to me about this through this book. I can’t recall reading a book as honest as this, we need more of it!

Beautiful redemption

I enjoyed this book thoroughly. Jamie’s story is slightly similar to my own. Hearing truth about God’s grace and love in her own story is beautiful. So many in our culture have similar stories and wear their scarlet letters because of shame; Jesus’s redemptive love can change anyone!
