Publisher's Summary

Aged nine, Joss came home from school to discover her father's suicide. She's never got over it.

This is the true story of Joss, 13, who is angry and out of control. At the age of nine, Joss finds her father's dead body. He has committed suicide. Then her mother remarries and Joss bitterly resents her step-father who abuses her mentally and physically.

Cathy takes Joss under her wing but will she ever be able to get through to the warm-hearted girl she sees glimpses off underneath the vehement outbreaks of anger that dominate the house and will Cathy be able to build up Joss's trust so she can learn the full truth of the terrible situation.

Long winded

The story was good but too slow moving. Boring. Couldn't finish it.

So sad but true

Such a sad story but one that needs to be told. So many young girls have been through what poor Jos went through and haven't been believed. I'm glad things worked out in the end!

Wow, poor kid

I've read all of Cathy's non-fiction books, and you feel for all the kids, they've all had a rotten time of it or they wouldn't be with a carer like Cathy, but wow, this one was just one thing after another!

Well written and beautifully read, as ever.

cathy glass repairs another shattered life

Where does Girl Alone rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

ranks very highly

What other book might you compare Girl Alone to, and why?

cut and will you love me because of its frankness honesty and compassion

Have you listened to any of Denica Fairman’s other performances? How does this one compare?

another great read from Denica would love to meet this lady as its clear she loves her job.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

a tangle of family tragedy which can only be repaired by love and care.

Any additional comments?

cathy glass does it again with her frank and at times I feel deeply moving account of another child's life torn apart by family tragedy. using good old fashioned care honesty and love cathy has to pick up the pieces but this time the rule book is thrown out the window from the start. this book is also made all the better by the wonderful narration of Denica fairman.

Love these books.

Cathy Glass is an amazing author, mother and foster mother. Her dealing with these children inspires me.

Denica Fairman reads these books really well. I can, and do frequently listen to her read all day.

Touching, almost gripping

A patient lady, an abused child, the resilience of hope. I take my hat off to Cathy. And very well narrated.
