Editorial reviews

June Juanico - with the assistance of the sweetly superior voice of Bernadette Flaggler - brings to a light the young, vibrant, and not-yet-iconic Elvis Presley with Elvis in the Twilight of Memeory. Originally meeting the ordinary young man named Elvis at age 17, June shares her memories of being the first girlfriend of not-yet-crowned King of Rock and Roll. Also learn about the family life that Elvis shared with his mother, Gladys. Listening to this is like a small time-machine to an earlier age of Americana, told with boundlessly tender love.

Publisher's summary

June Juanico was just 17 when she met Elvis Presley in 1955. As his first serious girlfriend, she was uniquely placed at a time when he was on the cusp of superstardom. This is her memoir of the summer of 1956, which they spent together, and an insight into the genesis of a star.

We Should All Have Best Friends Like Pat

The absolute star of this book is June's best friend Pat. We should all be so lucky.
I loved the book and sobbed like a baby.

A view from a different perspective!

I truly enjoyed this book and story of June and Elvis’s young love. Everything was happening so fast for Elvis. He was a rare talent and he paid the price of that to accommodate the many fans and people he supported along the way. Gone too soon. But no one could have pictured an old Elvis. He is forever young.

Young love never dies

This was a beautiful story of Elvis and June. Full of first love experience and passion. June was strong and brave and sacrificed her love for him by never clipping Elvis’s wings. In the end he was still searching for something, I believe he was searching for a simpler time that he remembered so well with June. Elvis thrived when he knew he was loved. Admiration which he had by the world, is not the same.

I LOVED this book!

This was one of the best books I’ve listened to! ❤️ I truly believe June was his soulmate but with his enormous fame, it would’ve been very hard to stay in his life. He had so many greedy, hawks controlling everything. Thank you June for sharing your story!

A beautiful love story

This is such a precious story of love and loss like so many of us can relate to. I found my self literally laughing out loud and smiling so big remembering what that first love or new love feels like. There’s something to be said for first loves though. They always hold a special place in your heart. And for Elvis lovers getting to see how normal and unusual Elvis was all at the same time was a wonderful experience while listening to this audio book. Thank you June for sharing your precious memories with us in such great detail. This is a really special story.

almost believable, but very rich original

Very interesting perspective on Elvis's early career. I'm not sure that I buy the idea that they weren't physically intimate, given the circumstances, but the author does a fine job of helping the reader fall in love with Elvis right along with her.

great book.

i wish there were more stories about day to day activities or conversations not just highlights. more in depth about what they would talk about and what his parents were like etc. i realky wish auduble would get differe t people to narrate the different people like cartoon movie. hearing the same person do all the parts is weird.
