Publisher's Summary

The sensational biography of Princess Diana, now revised to commemorate the 20th anniversary of her death.

When Diana: Her True Story - in Her Own Words was first published in 1992, it forever changed the way the public viewed the British monarchy. Greeted initially with disbelief and ridicule, the number-one New York Times best-selling biography has become a unique literary classic, not just because of its explosive contents but also because of Diana's intimate involvement in the publication. Never before had a senior royal spoken in such a raw, unfiltered way about her unhappy marriage, her relationship with the queen, her extraordinary life inside the House of Windsor, her hopes, her fears, and her dreams. Now, 25 years on, biographer Andrew Morton has revisited the secret tapes he and the late princess made to reveal startling new insights into her life and mind. In this fully revised edition of his groundbreaking biography, Morton considers Diana's legacy and her relevance to the modern royal family.

An icon in life and a legend in death, Diana continues to fascinate. Diana: Her True Story - in Her Own Words is the closest we will ever come to her autobiography.

    "Wonderful overall with one issue..."
What made the experience of listening to Diana the most enjoyable?

    Carolyn Langrishe's performance.

What did you like best about this story?

The excerpts in Princess Diana's own words.

    Any additional comments?

The issue is the reading by Michael Maloney. He has a voice that sounds as if there is an adenoid issue or stuffed up nose. The actor John Welsh of "Duchess of Duke Street" had the same delivery. So very distracting.

Would you listen to Diana again? Why?

Very pleasant narrator who is able to do justice to Diana's words.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Diana?

It was a good listen throughout. I like the vignette style narration.

Which character – as performed by Michael Maloney and Caroline Langrishe – was your favorite?

    Any additional comments?

If you are one of the legions of Princess Diana admires, I believe that you will throughly enjoy listening to this insightful book. It's a timeless topic as it deals with the Princess's feelings and her honesty is so refreshing. She was definitely a real person!

"Old Story Repackaged. Good Read though."

This new version is much the same as the 1992 original with addition of a commentary in Diana's words performed beautifully by Caroline Langrishe. No new surprises but a good read.

Andrew Morton does tend to accommodate the 'whims' of those that he is make the primary subject of his projects. I feel that he loves to write only 'the good' in order that he can curry favor and influence with those people of influence that he writes about. He turned Diana into some type of saint which I feel is unfortunate as she was, like all of us, most flawed. That is what made her so appealing. Of course England is a small country and many of us had an opportunity to meet her. She definitely could turn anyone speechless.

The description of Diana's relationship with her children was wonderful to revisit and personally I feel a good reason for reading this version of the book again.
Michael Maloney's performance is perfect as he has, like Morton a flat affect. This book would not work with someone who was bubbly and jumping off the page.

So if you are looking for something new then you will be disappointed but if you want to revisit a lovely lady taken too soon some twenty years ago then, perhaps, this may be for you.

    "So heartbreaking and tragic..."

    Shame on you Prince Charles!

I'm by no means an expert on The Royals, but I've read Hewitt's book and Prince Charles' book, and several others on the Royals. There is a pattern in how they treat "outsiders." I understand it's the whole life of royalty and all that comes with it, traditions, customs, for several hundred years; however, we are ALL human beings and should all be treated as such, at the very minimum with dignity and respect. You can tell when your reading or watching a documentary about The Royals, who "paid" for it, or who was behind the planning of it.

I'm convinced every event/situation, that transpired starting when she was targeted as the "ideal protestant, aristocratic, virgin wife of Prince Charles, led her to that tragic day in the tunnel.

Shame on you Prince Charles as a human being, shame on you as a husband, shame on you as a father and shame on you as the future king. You should abdicate and banish yourself.

You, Prince Charles, the Queen, Camila and all your cronies who tortured Diana ALL have blood on your hands. EACH.AND.EVERY.ONE.OF.YOU. All of you will have some explaining to do come judgment day.

My heart goes out to Diana, her immediate family, children and grandchildren who will never know the beautiful person she was.

Now you want a divorce from the evil witch Camila and she's "supposedly" afraid of what you will do to her, pfft...KARMA is a B**CH.

    "Distracting narrator"

Narrator had a cold for the first third of the book and was very distracting. Would have rather him wait until his cold passed before reading with an extremely obvious stuffed-up nose.

    "Great story, disappointing reader"
If you could sum up Diana in three words, what would they be?

    Compassionate, humble, courageous

What was one of the most memorable moments of Diana?

When she realized she didn't need the Royal family to do the work she was called to

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

No. This was very disappointing to me, and may be to others who have heard her tell the story herself, as this narrator made her come across as arrogant. I was extremely turned off by this, as I have watched the show where she speaks, and everything she says is with a gentle voice, even when she is talking about something that angered her.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes, I felt very inspired by the courage she showed in living this life without any help from those who should have been there to help her made the transition to living as a Royal.

    Any additional comments?

The only thing that I didn't like about her story is when she talks about what her astrologer told her, and the fact that she had this woman in her life, giving her advice.

    "Her voice"

It would of been better if the audio tapes were played of her voice saying what she said.
