Publisher's Summary

President George W. Bush narrates and describes the critical decisions of his presidency and personal life.

Decision Points is the extraordinary memoir of America's 43rd president. Shattering the conventions of political autobiography, George W. Bush offers a strikingly candid journey through the defining decisions of his life. In gripping, never-before-heard detail, President Bush brings listeners inside the Texas governor's mansion on the night of the hotly contested 2000 election; aboard Air Force One on 9/11, in the hours after America's most devastating attack since Pearl Harbor; at the head of the table in the Situation Room in the moments before launching the war in Iraq; and behind the Oval Office desk for his historic and controversial decisions on the financial crisis, Hurricane Katrina, Afghanistan, Iran, and other issues that have shaped the first decade of the 21st century.

President Bush writes honestly and directly about his flaws and mistakes, as well as his accomplishments reforming education, treating HIV/AIDS in Africa, and safeguarding the country amid chilling warnings of additional terrorist attacks. He also offers intimate new details on his decision to quit drinking, discovery of faith, and relationship with his family.

A groundbreaking new brand of memoir, Decision Points will captivate supporters, surprise critics, and change perspectives on one of the most consequential eras in American history - and the man at the center of events.

    "Excellent"

President Bush gives an insightful view of the behind the scenes activities and thought processes that made up his presidency during a difficult time in American history. I wish all of his haters would get this book and maybe find out it's not an easy task being the leader of the free world, especially when we have a bullseye on our back.

    "Delivers what it promises"
What did you love best about Decision Points?

Good insights from the oval office as key events played out.

    Any additional comments?

Interesting way of portraying Bush's perspective as events played out during his tenure as President. Not a chronological autobiography, which occasionally was jarring as it is 2005 in one moment, then back to 2001 in another.. but this was explained in the book summary so was as promised.
Whether you like or dislike George W. Bush, you can't discount that President of the USA is one heck of a tough job and you don't get any

"Refreshing and makes you proud to be an American"

This was a refreshing and personal perspective of some rather difficult and alarming events during the presidency of President George W. Bush. More compelling than just reading the book was listening to the President in his own words. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to President Bush and reflecting on my own recollection of the some of the events that he shared from his own perspective.

    "Right or wrong...It's REAL"

This was a beautiful ambition. This is a vivid depiction of how the man came to the principiled decisions. Even if you disagree with the priciples, you'll come away with fresh insight into the man and his motives. I loved hearing it in his own words.

"Important, but I just didn't feel it."

I don't think it's fair to write a review of this book without disclosing a few tidbits of my own attitude to this polarizing President. I supported Bush reluctantly and with some misgiving, and I was never an enthusiastic or a rabid supporter.

Listening to this book, President Bush focused on his key decisions, not his life. I have to say that while I listened to his arguments and found them to be well reasoned and logical I kept asking myself, "So do you really believe it? Do you feel it?" I just didn't feel like Bush spoke from a point of absolute conviction. I kept thinking while I listened, "He seems like the MBA president." Strong on theory, but short on depth or conviction. It was an interesting experience. I am grateful that he wrote the book and read it straight himself.

If you hate Bush, you might find some peace listening to his thoughtfulness - no one insists that you ought to agree with him - but hearing his side will perhaps leave you with a belief that it wasn't a huge conspiracy. If you love Bush, I think you will enjoy this book too - his arguments are well reasoned and you have the right to be proud of the president. We'll see how history judges him and I think he'll do well.

    Have fun.

    "An interesting look back"

Whether a fan or a detractor of George W. Bush this will be an interesting listen. Most often we hear the stories of our leaders as a jumbled timeline wherein the reasons for decisions are lost. This book take a refreshing approach of dealing with a single topic without mixing them up with other incidents.

Good decisions, bad decisions at least now an explanation for "why" of the decision that was made.
