Publisher's summary

“National Best-seller—New York Times, USA Today, Publisher’s Weekly, Wall Street Journal

The funny and talented Chip Gaines is well known to millions of people as a TV star, renovation expert, bestselling author, husband to Joanna, and father of four in Waco, Texas. But long before the world took notice, Chip was a serial entrepreneur who was always ready for the next challenge, even if it didn’t quite work out as planned. Whether it was buying a neighborhood laundromat or talking a bank into a loan for some equipment to start a lawn-mowing service, Chip always knew that the most important thing was to take that first step.

Now a #1 New York Times bestselling book, Capital Gaines offers readers a ringside seat as Chip relives some of his craziest antics and the lessons learned along the way. His mentors taught him to never give up and his family showed him what it meant to always have a positive attitude despite your circumstances. Throw in a natural daredevil personality and a willingness to do (or eat!) just about anything, and you have the life and daily activity of Chip Gaines.

Capital Gaines is the perfect book for anyone looking to succeed not only in business but more importantly in life.

Chips work ethic

Chip doesn't reveal any great business strategies. just hard work and a positive attitude... a feel good story. he opens with the story of his early years and his poor reading ability. he was in a reading group called the penguins. the better reading groups were named after great birds who could fly. Penguins can't fly but chip knew that they could swim, something the other birds couldn't do. inspirational. Through out the whole story he says don't live in fear to live your dream, don't play it safe, never give up. in the end of the book he says he graduated from college on a 3rd grade reading level. He makes up for that deficit by being an excellent story teller

Entrepreneurs Read This!

I've read the Magnolia story too, and while I loved that one to hear their struggles and journey together to make this amazing business, Chip's perspective just resonated with me. As an entrepreneur myself, his optimism and scrappiness is exactly how I feel about building my business and my legacy. His prospective on the world we live in is spot on in my opinion. I think everyone should read this book and be inspired by working hard, loving your family and always trying to do right by your fellow man. Bravo Chip Carter!

Must read for those who are not self believers.

Overall I am happy that I listened this book. Must read for those who are not self believers. People who doubt their ability will be able to correlate and appreciate the points Chip has made throughout the book. May be this book can serve as an eye opener for many.

Chip narration of his book is exciting, humorous and detailed. It is always tough to read your book. But Chip did a great job! I was always the big fan of your show "Fixer Upper" but after listening through your experience in building what you and Joanna have today i am a bigger fan.

Your book has taught me many important aspects of life. The way you talked about setting priorities in life was an eye opener. The importance of people around you in your life plays a critical role in what you may do at the end.

Thank you again. All the best to you for your future endeavors.

I love this family and love Chip, its amazing!

I love most of the story especially in the beginning but then it seems to go off into politics and being a believer myself I thought some things were said that I wouldn't say as a woman of Christ but that's O.K.you are who you are and I am not your judge. I would have loved to hear more about the different construction things that were done, the first book had a lot of that but it was short. I am sad to hear they are quitting Fixer Upper but luckily I haven't seen all of them and can now watch them on my Amazon Fire. Blessings to you and your family, if I a ever in Waco I will look you up! LOL You are are a woman putting up with all of his antics Joanna! HA HA
