Publisher's summary

Our prisons and mental hospitals are filled with tragic stories like Tuesday Storm's. Her early childhood was riddled with torturous "games" and violent physical attacks. She was isolated from the rest of her family, locked in an attic with nothing but a bare bed and a bucket for a toilet, and fed just enough to be kept alive. The experts say it's next to impossible to find the soul's light in a dark past like Tuesday's. They say she'll never trust again after being betrayed by the people she loved most, or silence the voices inside her head telling her she's worthless and unloved. She's doomed to suffer a lifetime of depression and self-destructive behavior, and destined to be drawn to people who will again abuse her. That's what the experts say. And the thing about experts is - they're usually right. Call Me Cockroach is a chilling illustration of the unfortunate truth that no one comes away from severe childhood trauma unscathed.

For those of you familiar with Byrne's debut book, Call Me Tuesday, this memoir is the rest of the story. To everyone else, it's a glimpse into the tormented mind and troubled heart of a woman struggling to overcome the debilitating aftermath of a horrific childhood.

Beautiful story

I struggle like she has, from abusive and neglectful parents and every day is a fight to take what I deserve for my future. Reading it has given me so much validation and so much hope that no matter what I’ll be able to be a survivor rather than a victim so long as I keep fighting for the future I deserve.
Read this if you or someone you know is a survivor of abusive parents.

How did I get here?

I can't imagine, how this book, took me to a place I have not been to in a long time. Just like Tuesday says, "It's good to know that there is someone that can relate to you."
God bless you Tuesday and your family.
PS: I have given this book five stars for Overall, Story, and Performance, if possible. I think there is a problem with the offered amount of stars.

A story I could relate to

While I was caught up in this book, I was able to remember my tragic past. I felt the relief of my strength and courage to make a better life for my children. Situations like this take more strength than a person can imagine and finding self love might be the most troubling obstacle. The author is an amazing representation of perseverance.

and now the rest of the story

I had listen to the first book and now just finish this one. this wasn't graphic in describing the abuse as the first book was, but it was very interesting on how the abuse affected her adult life.

Too relatable

So real, so true….captured all the emotions and damage that is left behind. Most people forget that mental abuse is just as bad enough worse then physical.

We needed this follow-up

Because of my line of work, I was told to read Call Me Tuesday. I would have never picked it up, not my style as I want to escape when reading but it was worth it and when this was suggested by Audible I HAD to read more. I am so happy Leigh gave us more of her story.
