Publisher's summary

Hardship, sacrifice, determination, and ultimate triumph make up Blind Faith, the frank and compelling biography of Lula Hardaway, mother of superstar musician and singer Stevie Wonder.

A motherless child born in a sharecropper's shack in Alabama, Lula was passed from relative to relative, unwanted and unloved. As a teenager she was sent to Chicago where she married a much older man who abused her and forced her to work as a prostitute. Determined to build a better life for her children, she eventually made her escape to Detroit.

Although Stevland Judkins was blind virtually from birth, Lula noticed that this little boy impressed everyone with his outgoing personality, his intelligence, charm, and his incredible musical talent. Berry Gordy dubbed the boy Little Stevie Wonder and launched him into musical history when he signed Stevie to his Motown label.

When Innervisions won a Grammy award for Album of the Year, in 1973, Stevie Wonder refused to accept the award unless Lula walked with him to the podium where he proclaimed, "her strength has led us to this place."

Indeed, it was Lula's drive and her willingness to sacrifice the now for the future that saw them through. Blind Faith is not only the story of the birth of a superstar, but a stirring testament to a mother's love.

Exceptional!

Great writing. Excellent performance by Viola. Both Lulu and Stevie shared the same overcoming mindset. Thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook!

A heartfelt story of a faithful mother and son.

Part 1 was heart-wrenching! I kept having to tell myself, this is a true story. Read like a novel.

Glad I endured Part 1, bc Part 2 was so rewarding.

I was born in 1972. Stevie has been "playing in the soundtrack of my life." So good to hear his story and Lula's too. Inspiring!

Very Worthwhile Read

It's an incredible story. I admire Lula's resilience, and her commitment to her children. Their world seemed to revolve largely around Stevie, and very little is shared about any of his siblings. Though enough was said to make it clear that they looked out for Stevie. There's a lot of positive energy running through the story. Despite the setbacks, trials and tribulations of life, Lula was extremely resilient.... she didn't give up. And Stevie, well, he really is a wonder.

Riviting real and satisfying

I felt anger and then great joy and proud of Lula she was a loving and protective mother who survived and taught Stevie to be strong and courageous.

A mothers love

I enjoyed this back story on the life of Lula Hardaway. Despite her personal trials and hardships her love for her child pushed her beyond her dreams and propelled his. I enjoyed the narration by Viola Davis, she has a very easy listening voice, she moves between characters with ease.
