Publisher's summary

A hilarious and inspiring memoir about one young woman's journey to find a better path to both physical and mental health.

At 29, Kelsey Miller had done it all: crash diets, healthy diets, and nutritionist-prescribed "eating plans", which are diets that you pay more money for. She'd been fighting her un-thin body since early childhood and, after a lifetime of failure, finally hit bottom. No diet could transform her body or her life. There was no shortcut to skinny salvation. She'd dug herself into this hole, and now it was time to climb out of it.

With the help of an intuitive eating coach and fitness professionals, she learned how to eat based on her body's instincts and exercise sustainably, without obsessing over calories burned and thighs gapped. But with each thrilling step toward a healthy future, she had to contend with the painful truths of her past.

Big Girl chronicles Kelsey's journey into self-loathing and disordered eating - and out of it. This is a memoir for anyone who's dealt with a distorted body image, food issues, or a dysfunctional family. It's for the late bloomers and the not yet bloomed. It's for everyone who's tried and failed and felt like a big, fat loser. So, basically, everyone.

Awesome book with one major flaw

This is a great book with one huge honking flaw. The author has a cat whom she refers to as 'The Cat'. What? Is she trying to protect its identity or something? This shows a serious disregard for the unique and stellar life of her feline familiar. I don't think she even has a cat, just a cardboard cutout acting as a literary prop. Otherwise, great book, I laughed and cried, etc. read it, but beware.

good memoir

i really learned a lot about the mindset of a chronic dieter and how it fails in the long term. so many people struggle with eating issues; the honesty in this book was very insightful. Quick read.

Interesting summer read

The reader/author made me continue reading the story.
Lovely voice & very accomplished performance on reading the story.
The story autobiographical of the author can help people with food additions.
I like the idea of intuitive eating. It logically must work. I'm also a believer that we must eat what we feel for and stop following every new diet in trend.
Al in all a nice listen and predictable ending.

Great Story

Really resonated with me. Felt like she was talking right to me. Funny and wry. Sad and truthful. Highly recommend!

Loved every second!!

For lovers of memoirs such as Wildflower by Drew Barrymore and Anna Kendrick's Scrappy Little Nobody, this honest and relatable story details the irrational and at times down right delusional thoughts of an unhealthy relationship with food and body image. Kelsey is likeable, personable and her voice is the only voice that should ever tell her story. She is charming, eloquent and genuine.
I recommend this book to anyone who has ever struggled with their relationship to food, weight or body image. I finished this audiobook in 2 days the first time I listened and I know for sure I will be listening over and over again!

Thank you Kelsey for putting my experiences into such entertaining and cathartic words!

Accessible and relatable

While I cannot relate to all of Kelsey’s story, (thank goodness), I can identify with a great deal of it. It has inspired me to try mindfulness, particularly with eating. While I cannot afford personal trainers and eating coaches, this book has given me hope that I can accomplish much on my own. Thank you, Kelsey!

By far one of the best books I've ever listened to!

I've listened to many and multiple books and this one is on my top favorites. Kelsey Miller is fantastic while narrating her life while having issues with food. I related to her on almost every thing she said and felt like we were best friends through reading her thoughts. It helped me as well understand I can win the fight over emotional eating and a food disorder. It can't make you a prisoner and your body image doesn't make or break you, it's who you are and what's inside that matters. This book is beyond refreshing and she is hilarious as well! I love you Kelsey! And this book!
