Audie Award Finalist, Non-Fiction, 2014

Jenna Miscavige Hill, niece of Church of Scientology leader David Miscavige, was raised as a Scientologist but left the controversial religion in 2005. In Beyond Belief, she shares her true story of life inside the upper ranks of the sect, details her experiences as a member Sea Org - the church's highest ministry - speaks of her "disconnection" from family outside of the organization, and tells the story of her ultimate escape.

In this tell-all memoir, Jenna Miscavige Hill, a prominent critic of Scientology who now helps others leave the organization, offers an insider's profile of the beliefs, rituals, and secrets of the religion that has captured the fascination of millions, including some of Hollywood's brightest stars such as Tom Cruise and John Travolta.

Whew!!!

What did you love best about Beyond Belief?

This isn't a book I loved. Most like an accident that you have to look even though you don't want to see it.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Jenna, I guess. Hard to have favorites.

What does Sandy Rustin bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She made everything real. I think if I had read the book my mind might wonder but that didn't happen while listening to it.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I was mostly incredulous that this goes so deep into the lives of it's practitioners.

Any additional comments?

Very candid account of Scientology

I knew nothing of Scientology before I listened and am better off for having listened.

Loved It!

Where does Beyond Belief rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Great story that should be heard by all. The narrators voice was perfect, not annoying at all like some books I have listen to.

see behind the headlines

Mrs hill's book goes beyond the goofy Tom cruise clips and south park parodies and reveals the real danger of scientology. It's not belief in a science fiction story as a religion. It's the brutal human rights violations led by a sadistic and unnerving leader. This was a very fast and incredibly interesting read.

Must Read from a person who grew up in Scientology

I couldn't stop listening to this book. It is heartbreaking, beyond disturbing and astounding what is required of children growing up in Scientology. The author, Jenna Miscaviage Hill, would know because she lived it as the head of Scientology' David Miscaviage. When a child is punished, berated, separated from their families and threatened, no wonder they don't speak out and become robots into adulthood, forced to enforce what was done to them. Scientology will eventually go down and that weasel, David Miscaviage, will rot in prison for all the families he has torn apart.

Perfect narrator for this story-- her voice gives life to the author's experiences

Any additional comments?

I'm not even done listening yet and am completely riveted by this young woman's life and experiences. I'm impressed with her gumption to write this book.

informative and shocking

I thought the detail was too much at first, but it was important throughout the story.
