Publisher's summary

The journey to wellness when coming back from a brain injury can be a long one. It is one that author Ruth Curran knows well. Faced with a myriad of challenges after her own brain injury, she decided to turn up the volume on the things that she loved and found ways to work through the discomfort and discouragement that can plague so many who are faced with this devastating diagnosis.

Her own path - one that took 18 months - is one that she shares with listeners in Being Brain Healthy. Being Brain Healthy is a book of hope. Curran shares insights on healing from a brain injury and has the unique ability to explain complex neuroscience in a way that makes sense to those who are just taking their first steps on the road to recovery.

Convinced that everyone can work their way out of what Curran refers to as "the fog" and can build better thinking skills, the author shares how she turned her entire life into a better experience. The goal of Being Brain Healthy is to combine the most cutting-edge research with what those with brain injuries know intuitively. Curran helps listeners to understand how the brain and body work together and how that can be used to an advantage.

With the book divided into sections, including "Be Active", "Be Engaged", "Be Social", "Be Purposeful", and "Be Complicated", listeners will be able to see how the newest science, activities, and exercises can help those who are suffering with brain injuries to make the most of every day. Included in the book are stories from those currently in recovery from brain injuries whose experiences are meant to inspire listeners to take their own functionality to the next level.

Ruth wonderfully tells her story in her own words

Would you consider the audio edition of Being Brain Healthy to be better than the print version?

Ruth is not only a very knowledgeable author, she is also a well-polished narrator making this audio book very easy to listen to, relate to and understand. Excellent audio production. Highly recommended!

What did you like best about this story?

Ruth realized she needed to use her everyday routine activities, emphasizing things that can be changed in practical ways, and how to incorporate these changes into daily life, to get back to normal and maintain a healthy brain. Ruth shares how she did, and you can, use the power of thinking and acting to heal ourselves and live a much richer more conscious life

Which scene was your favorite?

The emotion in Ruth’s voice as she narrates how an automobile accident caused a major life changing event, taking her on a journey from mental devastation to mental wellness. It is a very personal story told by an author with great knowledge, intuitive wisdom and compassion. Ruth’s tells her story to help others and she does exactly that.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

There is nothing more precious than your mind, and Ruth’s book has given me tools to make the most of what I have here and now, and put me on a path to keep improving and sustaining it.
