Decent book

The accounts in this book are entertaining enough at first thought, but once I paused to consider how the game wardens were stalking people for weeks or months on end to catch them in a single violation it really started to trouble me. I do not appreciate the candor with which the author speaks of trespassing onto private property because he has received an anonymous lead that something may or may not be happening. Or how he would go to great lengths to track down where somebody had harvested a deer, then track them to their home and find out that a child had killed a barely too small deer and give citations, and take firearms and the meat from the hunter. I also do not buy for a single minute that that author was able (as he said) to have seen millet seed in the woods during turkey season and cited a man for hunting over bait, when it was obvious that he was not hunting over bait, even if there was bait in the area. If you are a hunter, and want to lose respect for game wardens this will be a book that will help accomplish that goal!

Great stories

I found this book looking for another, but I’m glad I did. If you’re like me, and never miss a chance to listen to an old timer tell stories about the past than you’ll enjoy this book a lot.

Degree or two of separation, if that…

I am most likely not the most objective listener…I purchased this for both myself and my retired FWS special agent partner to listen to when our TV was out. Did not go as planned — the reader is great but 2 or 3 chapters in — we were both calling BS (I’m a career state park manager 25+ yrs). Probably great for the masses but for those well versed in parks and wildlife law — not so much. If the story is taken for the truth — the author is lucky he survived to tell it.

Great local history

So I live on the St Johns River and because I absolutely love my little area having grown up on the river all my life, it was a thrill for me to hear stories about places I knew. It was really amazing to hear how my town was shaped through misbehaving locals 😄 and seeing life through his eyes. Thank you Bob for giving me this treat today!

Funny

Great stories, most very funny. My family & i listened to it on a road trip, perfect listen driving through the south. Even my 11yr old son liked it, i only found out because we thought he was asleep. When i went to pause it he said something. I said well ok & we ended up listening to the whole book on the road.

Great storytelling!

Well-told anecdotes about being a game warden in Florida before overpopulation completely destroyed it. Enjoyed it!

True and gritty

This book was surprisingly well written & cohesive. It was lots of fun. Descriptors, and individual stories of bad guys and rapscallions . I live in Florida; North Central Florida in fact, so many of the areas that were mentioned in the book places I've been to . Rodman damn , St. John's river & Palatka . It is great fun to hear the stories of real people.

Fun and interesting stories

Enjoyed hearing about life in Florida and the perils of catching people who don’t like rules, or at least, laws pertaining to their own back yard. Told with the voice of a seasoned and pragmatic person who has lived to tell the story. Thank you for sharing your story!
