Publisher's Summary

Labor is usually helpless against capital. The employer, perhaps, decides to shut up the shops; he ceases to make profits for a short time. There is no change in his habits, food, clothing, pleasures - no agonizing fear of want. Contrast this with his workman whose lessening means of subsistence torment him. He has few comforts, scarcely the necessities for his wife and children in health, and for the sick little ones no proper treatment. It is not capital we need to guard, but helpless labor. If I returned to business tomorrow, fear of labor troubles would not enter my mind, but tenderness for poor and sometimes misguided though well-meaning laborers would fill my heart and soften it; and thereby soften theirs.

    "great autobiography"

Although I was familiar with Andrew Carnegie vaguely before, his autobiography had never come up as one of the "must read autobiographies," but it most certainly should. I'd rank it up there with Ben Franklin's.

    "Great man, great book"

A great story of the American Dream and philanthropy. And in today's political hotbed about immigrants it's nice to listen to a book that reminds us this country was built on the hard work of immigrants. What he built and what he gave back should be an inspiration to all. Great content. Great narration. Well worth the listen.

"Great example of hard work and business ethics!"
    Any additional comments?

“It was as if my foot was on a ladder and I am bound to climb”. ..

What an interesting life! I’ve been wanting to read about Andrew Carnegie for a long time! I learned more than I expected from his autobiography. From his humble beginnings when he and his family moved to America, his courage and hard work ethics, to when he became a great example of a self-made steel tycoon and one of the wealthiest businessmen of 19th century, and about his philanthropic endeavors.

Kevin Theis did a good job narrating this book.

I received this audio-book free for an honest review by the author, narrator, or publisher. Thank you!!!

    "Loved it!"

Speaker had great voice but seemed consistently a little angry or rather instead a little confrontational.
