Publisher's summary

His assignment from Satan was to kill Pastor Craig Groeschel. Today he sits on the front row of that pastor's church. For twenty years of his life, Michael Leehan lived and worked for Satan. At age 33, he made a decision to serve the darkness that he felt had consumed his life, but instead of making things easier, it began a steeper downward spiral replete with ritualistic cuttings, blood sacrifices, jail time, job loss, estrangement from his friends and family, and actual murderous assignments from Satan himself. Ascent from Darkness relates Michael’s gripping, real-life encounters, enslavement to the powers of darkness, and miraculous emancipation from the clutches of the Enemy.

For anyone who has ever struggled with spiritual warfare, addiction, depression, or hopelessness, Michael’s story is a bold reminder of the redemptive truth of the gospel that anyone - even a soldier of Satan - can be transformed and used for the glory of God.

Now a servant of Christ, Michael exhibits the power of God’s relentless love and offers listeners the chance to experience their own ascent into God’s glorious light.

Good book. I think he could have been a bit more specific. Scary story although.

Good book to show that satan and God do exist

There's always a spiritual battle going on in this world people need to open up their eyes spiritually to see. When you are lukewarm Christian that is when you're only alert to the world and not to the spiritual world this book will will show you....

Incomprehensible, Insightful, Totally Believable

I found Michael's story to be difficult to want to hear in the beginning as he began to talk about why he decided to follow Satan but knowing that his is a story of real life, flesh-and-blood man from Oklahoma, made me want to hear the end of it. By the time I got to the end of the story, I was on the edge of my seat, praising God and wanting to see what He would do with a life that was given fully to Him.

Wow!

Excellent story! Well written, well read. Narrator was just a tad mechanical, but still good listening. Gave food for thought about my own Christian walk and how we treat "outsiders". Highly recommend!

Astounding story of triumph over Satanism

I can’t imagine a more profound book on the subject of a person overcoming Satanism and turning over his life to Christ. Excellently written. The narrator also eloquently delivers the reading of this book.

Powerful!!!

This is a great book that reveals the spiritual darkness around us. This book is creepy to read at times but a very powerful example of how Jesus can save and use absolutely anyone. Mike Lehann reminds me of the apostle Paul. This book is a testimony to the unsaved and strengthening to Christians.

Love of God is always bigger than our depravity

One can debate/ponder for forever-and-a-day about the existence of God, God's love, sin, evil, and the supernatural, but when you get a story like this you stop wondering and just get to know what is and how it is. This is a story that will revitalise your prayer life. It will show you that God is always in control no matter what. It will show you that you can never fall so deep that God can't reach you. It will show you that it's all worth it and to never ever give up until God cuts the line. It will convince you not to live in fear but to be bold and full of courage. God loves you way more than Satan can hate you, or you can ever hate God (for whatever reason). God does not hold grudges. He will use you when you come to him no matter what you did or tried to do. This book is a great investment.

Great Regardless of Belief

Where does Ascent from Darkness rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It's pretty high up there.

Who was your favorite character and why?

It's told from Michael's perspective so... Michael.

What does Paul Boehmer bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

While not the best narrator, he turns in a good performance that helps things breeze along.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. I looked forward to starting again whenever I stopped driving.

Any additional comments?

If you believe in the subject matter, it is illuminating. If you don't believe, it is entertaining at the very least. While the presentation of choosing the light comes across heavy handed from those he encounters, almost bullying, the analysis of a willing descent into evil, blood sacrifice and other twisted encounters is absolutely fascinating.

just not what i thought!

it is so easy to blame God for our bad decisions or anyone else in our life.
I don't mean to judge but this man never took responsibility for the bad life he was leaving.
And i just can not stand a person like that.
I also think the all the story is a lie.
